Best breastfeeding book I've read,
By MommyRN (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews

LOVE this book! I'm a nurse and a new mother. I have read many breastfeeding books, and this one is the best by far. Witty, humorous, and right on point; she makes complicated aspects easy to grasp. Personally, the book was more helpful in answering my myriad questions than my visits with lactation consultatants.
The author is essentially following Attachment Parenting, and her insight into the why's of AP made so much sense- and clarified why staying so close to your baby is so important. This book will be my standard baby-shower gift in the future.

Wish I had this for my first baby.,

I have read nearly every nursing book at the library. This is by far the best. It's light hearted, and builds your confidance and shows you how easy breastfeeding can be without the worry, showing breastfeeding as easy and natural as breathing. I wish I had this book when I had my first child. I was going off the other books and no close support. I was a nervous wreck about nursing. I actually tried to time how long she was on my breast. I only knew one position, the cradle and it made night feedings tiring. I worried all the time about not having enough milk even though she was thriving. I pumped very little milk and equated that with not having enough milk. As a consequence I never nursed longer than 2 months with my first two children. Then a breakthrough happened. For my 3rd child I read this book. And suddenly I had the humorous, support and confidance I needed. I knew how to get him to latch on right. I learned to nurse laying side by side with him so I can take a nap. I learned to nurse discretely in public. Without this book I wouldn't have been so successful nursing. My son was a fat little butterball on my breastmilk without the need for supplimenting. And I nursed him for 8 months. Now I'm on to my 4th child and this book is still on my mind as I enjoy the bonding and satisfaction of giving my baby the food of love.

I would strongly recommend this book to everyone who wants to breastfeed or is doing so. It is easy to read for sleep-deprived moms and explains everything in such a simple way that it is difficult not to become a lactivist.

I think I've read 90% of all the breastfeeding books. This one is my favorite. It made me feel warm and supported and validated exactly the way I feel about breastfeeding my baby. I'm back on Amazon to buy copies for all the new mamas I know.

Not only is this book informative, it is also entertaining.
It gives alot of practical information about breastfeeding in a format that is extremely visually appealing and easy to read. The illustrations are helpful, funny, and sometimes downright beautiful. The illustrations of real women with various body types is re-affirming. The book is incredibly supportive of breastfeeding efforts without being a nursing nazi that could contribute to a shame spiral if breastfeeding doesn't work out for a particular mother. I stayed up all night to read it the first night i got it and have picked it up again to revisit certain parts and images since then. This book would be an excellent gift (or self gift) for any new or expecting mother.

I ordered this for my wife after reading a positive review in HipMamma zine. Expecting twins we both read a lot of books on pregnancy, parenting and twins. This book by far has been her favorite. The advice is very simple and down to earth and realistic with a good amount of humor mixed in. The book has amazing illustrations done by the author and is very dad or SO friendly. There is also a great section on co-sleeping.
