This is a small, concise guide to all sorts of food in Baltimore and nearby. Baltimore City and county are divided into 14 areas. Some restaurants `worth the drive' are in a separate section, but are just listed alphabetically by restaurant; you have to search for an area by leafing through the pages.

In the Baltimore section - each is separated by 'faves', restaurants that are landmarks and then specialty stores and markets. This is a great way to look for restaurants and places to eat. There are maps, but the restaurants are not marked on them. Something is told about each area. Each restaurant has the address, telephone number, web site, food type and general cost. There is quite a bit told about each place.

The book also has several pages describing web sites and a list of food festivals. Inserted are some interesting tidbits about Baltimore treats...Goetze's Caramel crèmes, Smith Island cakes, picking crabs. I do wish they would have included more about Berger cookies; they are coveted by many across the country, even used as bets by public officials against other cities for sports events. There are a few recipes included from some of the places mentioned.
This is an excellent source for locals and visitors alike.

If you're into food and you live in Baltimore (or are planning to visit), buy this book! It's detailed and comprehensive, including all the major (and some not-so-major) restaurants in the area, plus a look at other food-related destinations, like markets and shops.

The authors know what they're talking about - and they're fun to read! The Food Lovers' Guide to Baltimore is no boring guidebook. It's something you'll use AND enjoy.

This is the definitive guide for anyone who's interested in eating in Charm City. The authors are lifelong residents of the city, as well as avid foodies, and have done a terrific job of covering just about every aspect of the dining scene. Chapters are divided by neighborhood, with a brief history of the area that includes the cultural influences on the food. There's info about specialty stores, markets, and local producers. There are also chapters covering breweries and wineries, as well as the blossoming food truck scene. Sidebars scattered throughout the guide offering fascinating tidbits on everything from locally-produced candy (Caramel Creams) to how to pick a hard crab. There are even recipes from several local restaurants. Appendices make it easy to find a specific type of cuisine, dishes, specialties, and specialty foods.

As if that's not enough, the guide is written in a witty, engaging style that makes the book a fun read as well as informative. I've lived in Baltimore my entire life, and there are many places I didn't know about! All this makes the book a great guide to everything food in Bawlmer, for the visitor & resident alike!
