So Handy,
By Dave Brooks "the digital buffalo" (Brooklyn) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Food Lovers' Guide to Brooklyn: Best Local Specialties, Markets, Recipes, Restaurants, and Events (Food Lovers' Series) (Paperback)
With so much great food in Brooklyn, this book is an essential tool. The index is smartly organized so that you can search by neighborhood, cuisine, or restaurant name. The foodie faves section will list places that are well known to many, but lesser known gems are covered as well. Ideal for new Brooklynites, visitors, and New Yorkers from other boroughs who need some direction. Love it!

great resource for exploring the Brooklyn food scene!!,
This review is from: Food Lovers' Guide to Brooklyn: Best Local Specialties, Markets, Recipes, Restaurants, and Events (Food Lovers' Series) (Paperback)
The Brooklyn food scene--not only restaurants, but also markets, food events and festivals, and specialty shops--has truly exploded in the past decade. As a resident and food lover, I find it hard sometimes to keep up, and even harder to distinguish between mere hype and earned accolades. Sherri Eisenberg's Food Lovers' Guide to Brooklyn is an invaluable resource for planning meals out or food-related excursions. Broken down by neighborhood, the book includes maps, reviews, and highlights for each listing. It has certainly encouraged me to explore further into the borough than I have gone before...and my stomach has been amply rewarded. YUM!

This is a must-have for anyone looking for a fun guide to eating in Brooklyn. It has a lot of the favorites, but also things you wouldn't expect. Note, this is not a review book - it doesn't include every place under the sun, just ones the author thinks are worthy of seeking out. The book is well organized and easy to use, and also small enough to be portable. This makes a great gift for anyone who loves to explore new places!

Mostly, when you read guidebooks these days, the reviews are so general, you're never even sure if the writer ate there. Eisenberg's writing is so specific and detailed you know exactly which dish to order, and how to order it. (You also get hungry, so watch out). Not to mention, the book covers so many places that never show up in other general NYC or even Brooklyn guides. I live in Brooklyn and we're already using this book each weekend to eat out.

The wife is mad at me, so this book did its job... :-) Now we have hundreds of more places to eat at when we make our annual pilgrimage to NYC, meaning thousands of more tasty calories to cram into our bodies. Good thing we walk so much when we're there. Highly highly highly recommended for folks who want to cram thousands of more tasty calories into their bodies when in NYC. It also lists directions from subways, and, with its small size, it fits conveniently into her purse, so she can whip it out if we need to should my direction sense go south...

There are so many new restaurants in Brooklyn these days, it's hard to keep up. I found this book easy to read and navigate. Written in a very conversational tone, restaurants are listed by neighborhood and maps are included in each section. I liked the concise, detailed descriptions of both the well known and little known spots. The author also includes "fun sections" about things that make Brooklyn Brooklyn (CSA's, the flea markets, Red Hook ballfields). I will definitely pull this book out next time I'm heading out in Brooklyn for a good or interesting meal or just looking for a snack.
