Herbst, the author of several cookbooks and food-related titles (e.g., A Food Lover's Tiptionary, LJ 3/15/94), appears regularly on Good Morning America to offer her kitchen tips. In these two titles, the first of a new series, she offers recipes and information on that favorite all-American combo, meat and potatoes, and on two favorite dessert flavorings, whether on their own or together. Not surprisingly, each book is filled with valuable tip boxes and the type of useful culinary facts that are her expertise. The introduction to meat is particularly good, covering buying, storing, and cooking techniques. And her recipes are good too. She describes her desserts as "seriously indulgent," and most are delectable, from Black Magic Mousse to Dream Cream. Meat and potato choices include Plum Crazy Pork Chops and Spiced-Twice Potato Hash. While each book includes only 35 recipes, the series is based on an appealing concept, and these titles seem likely to be popular.

Loved this book--loads of informative facts and tips--clear, concise and interesting recipes for meats, potatoes, and the combination of the two. I've tried 12 of the 50+ recipes and all of them worked and all of them were delicious (the Smoky Spiced Brisket & Apples is outstanding!) If you love to cook and want some interesting ideas, this one's for you.

I love to cook, it's an ongoing process. In our fat crazed days I sort of ignored good ol' meat & potatoes. Well these recipes are very creative and delicious. The preparation is straight forward and leaves room for your own family taste buds. This lady has helped me find an alternative to Chili and Sloppy Joes for my two sons.

this book was a big dissapointment,with very few recipes,none of them too exciting & even if its discounted,which it is not at this time,it offers very little for your money,there are much better choices on this subject out there.
