5.0 out of 5 stars Food Dehydrator
The item performs just like another unit we borrowed from a friend. This was the only non-powered dehydrator on the net, so this was a trial order. So far, it is exactly what we wanted. My wife is pleased and that's good enough for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS! IT IS JUNK!
This item will fall apart just by trying to put in the trays. It is impossible to get it back together as the straps have to be slid into plastic hooks. It fell partially apart just sitting on the table and picking it up a couple of times and got worse when trying to put it back together. Every time I got one strap back on, more were loose. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy With Purchase!, August 11, 2011

I purchased this Food Pantry after contacting the company to see if the past issue reviewers were experiencing was resolved and I got a quick reply back that it was. I ordered this product and have now used it twice and I love it. I have an Excalabur dehydrator but actually like this dehydrator better as it is non-electric, lighter and makes no noise. The trays stay in their spot no problem, so the previous issue was fixed. I used it to dry herbs which took two days and the pasta was ready overnight in my house. I'm sure it depends on the humidity where you live though. I have not tried it outside as it has been windy the last couple of days, but am excited to try that as well. I have uploaded product pictures so you can see the dryer in action. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend and am sooo glad I got it, well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome so far..., June 30, 2011

This product is great! I've used it every day for the past week and no problems, and plan to use it all summer long (if anything new comes up I plan on editing this review). The only thing I have noticed is the zipper doesn't completely close at the bottom and some bugs got it there. But found a quick fix. I just tucked the little food pantrie tag in when I zipped it up and I haven't had a problem with little flies getting in. I hung it in the shade so its out of direct sun. The food is drying very quickly in the desert air.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Solar Food Dryer ever - just bought 2nd!!, June 29, 2011
This review is from: Food Pantrie Hanging Food Dehydrator (Kitchen)
I've owned my Food PANtrie non-electric hanging dryer for 3 years & use it every summer. I love it! Just purchased 2nd dryer for a friend. I dry herbs & make sun-dried tomatoes. The mesh keeps insects away - other solar dryers let the bugs right in. You will need a place to hang this - I hang in part shade from tree branch. Could take 1-3 days to dry depending on food item/sun/wind so you'll also need place to hang inside at night - I hang from bicycle hook in garage. Trays are removable for cleaning - ask a friend hold mesh open when you add/remove trays. Self-contained for easy dust-free storage in winter. I've never had trouble with straps as another reviewed mentioned. (maybe they put it together wrong?) This is THE BEST solar dryer I've ever owned!

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, June 5, 2010

Yes, the straps come off, but that can be overcome with tape or glue. Once this problem is solved it works great. You can hang it in the sun during the day and bring it in at night -- my apple slices dried in 2 days in good weather. It fully protects from insects and birds. Used it last year for many loads of Gravenstein & Jonathan apple slices. Used it last month in the house, since it was raining outside, to dry celery leaves for flavoring soups. I plan to use it again and buy a second one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shelves fall out!, January 12, 2012

Overall I love the concept of outdoor dryers. I give this one a 5 for doing its job. And a 1 for design. It is VERY poorly designed as far as how the shelves are attached. There are funky cloth tabs that are difficult to open, they fold over themselves; once you get one side in, the other side comes out, repeating itself over and over again. Very frustrating. I finally resorted to safety pins until I can find a fix for next year. I wouldn't buy this particular brand of dryer again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept., September 12, 2011

This really is a great concept, and I loved the idea. I'm all about non-electric and self-sufficiency, etc. I was really disappointed at the overwhelming plastic smell when I opened the box up though. I went for the instruction book to learn more about the item but found a slip of paper stating I had to go online to view it--annoying but fine...saves paper. The plastic is made from polypropylene...and the product is made in China. I guess I didn't realize on the plastic trays or country of origin when I ordered. If you don't care about either, then you'll be right in love with this thing. Like the other recent reviews, it's built well. Happy food preserving to you :)

It's just my personal preference on the plastic thing. I'm a plastic-hater, and I don't want it touching my food. I believe it's bad for the environment and your health, so I can't give this more than 3 stars. Now make this with stainless steel trays (NO non-stick coating) and you've got yourself a more green product. Then I can take more of it to the scrap yard when its time is done rather than adding more plastic crap to our landfills. Create some American jobs (yeah, I'll certainly pay more for that) and have this manufactured here.

Not sure on returning it...might be a good starting point to make my own version....

1.0 out of 5 stars Unclear instructions. Not sure how to use..., August 2, 2009

I am returning the food PANtrie. I received it Friday. There was little information about it on the Amazon website, but I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't realize it needs to hang from something. I didn't see that clearly in the photo. Plus, the instructions on your website weren't helpful at all. I think the sprout tray might be missing but since there is neither a parts list or illustration, I can't tell.

I saw on your website that you claim to an inventor with little writing skills. You might want to considering hiring someone like that to help you. It may help you sell this product. For now, I'm just confused.
