I have a vast cookbook collection. This is the perfect book for a beginning cook. The recipes are basic and elegant but simple and fast--even a 'gourmet' chef wouldn't mind trying a few out on a busy day. There's a FULL-PAGE pic for EVERY recipe. The book makes a great presentation b/c it is hardbound with a paper jacket. Each recipe gives suggested wine pairings. There's a useful, quick preface of Italian cooking/food basics and a wine chart listing the basics of wine/food pairings. I was lucky enough to find this book at such a ridiculously low price, that I bought five of them--one to keep and four to give as gifts. It makes a lovely hostess gift paired with a bottle of wine.

You can't go wrong with this book! No complicated instructions or exotic ingredient lists here. Despite their simplicity, these recipes will satisfy the busy foodie with high standards but little time to shop and prep. The mouth-watering photos are indispensible... both as inspiration and a helpful tip on what to expect from the finished meal. Each recipe also includes a wine pairing and creative options. With the help of this book, I've painlessly improved my cooking skills and repertoire. The companion book "quick from scratch one-dish meals cookbook" is equally delightful.

My husband picked up this cookbook at our grocery store. We have tried almost every recipe in it, and we've liked every one. These recipes are easy to make and yummy! I'm not sure how the editors did it!

It's hard to pick favorites. If pressed I would say: first try the Sausage and Mushroom Soup, the Chopped Italian Salad, the Lamb Chops with Rosemary and Grapes, and the Rigatoni with Sausage and Tomato Cream Sauce. But there are many others we like as well. We're thinking we may need another copy as we're wearing out the one we have!

We've also decided to try some of Food and Wine's other cookbooks.

This is a great cookbook with nice pictures and great recipes. I love the way the setup of the book is. Its simple and classy. Very glad that I purchased it! Absolutely love the fettuccine alfredo recipe! Yum.

I bought this cookbook for my husband so we could cook together and eat in more often. We've used it several times already and every recipe we've tried has been outstanding! Great color photos of each dish, great purchase!
