5.0 out of 5 stars conversation starter
This pack of thought-provoking questons has really improved the dinnertime discussions at our house. After being married for 19 years, I thought I knew everything about my husband. Surprisingly, these questions have started conversations about issues we had never discussed. I would recommend this item for any family.

1.0 out of 5 stars Time for the family
As a child, I remember our family dinners were always mandatory! I remember that we had to have a good excuse in order to miss a meal at the dining room table. We were a large family of seven.

Having meals together meant more than just eating and learning proper table manners. It meant that we had a time, and reason, to actually connect with our parents and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for any age family., June 3, 2004

My entire family has enjoyed using these cards at mealtime. My children range in age from 23 to 11 and the first time we opened the box everyone had fun sharing. I also appreciate the quotes that are on some of the cards.

I had read about this in a magazine. The box is filled with info and questions to get the conversation rolling at the dinner table...and it does just that. Geared toward older teens/adults. What a great idea!

5.0 out of 5 stars what a great idea, April 5, 2005
This review is from: Food for Talk (Misc. Supplies)
Food for talk is one of the most simple yet innovative communication tools I've seen.

My kids love the engaging questions and look forward to our family dinner time more than ever.

I have recommended this product to all my "mom" friends and they all love it.

Hope you will publish more in the future (for another year of thought provoking family conversations ) Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the Family Talking!!, April 5, 2005

What a great product this has been for our family! Our conversations at dinner or should I say lack of conversation at dinner was a definite concern I had with our communication as a family. Food For Talk has put back the spark in our dinner conversations. I have learned more about my kids and their thoughts, ideas by using this product. They are ages 14, 12, 10 and they fight over who gets to pick the card we'll be discussing at dinner. It is great when you entertain guests too!

Thanks for helping to bring families together and helping them to communicate in a meaningful way.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest idea I've seen in a long time!, April 5, 2005

I have used this product with my family for over a year now and am amazed at the conversations it truely does start; and, with having two teenagers that is saying alot! I can't believe what an easy concept it is but so effective. However, that's how I feel when I see innovative stuff at a craft fair. Somebody, Julienne Smith in this case, took the pain staking time of putting together something that is so needed in such a busy and future shock society such as ours. The questions asked in her notecards and the quotes cited are not only insightful but fun and truely thought provoking. I have been a psychotheripist since the late 80's and with all the people I counsel communication is the number one issue needing attention. I work full time and seem to be pretty drained by the time I come home, pick out supper, cook supper and finally sit down at around 7PM. The Food For Talk product enables me to not only get my kids juices flowing but helps me to get off what I'm thinking about. It basically enables my children and I to refocus onto the same wave lenghth. Me a therapist by trade uses this to help with opening up the lines of communication, BUT IT WORKS!!! It makes things not so intense and opens up the doors for deeper communication to ensue if needed. BUY IT NOW! is all I have to say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great family time tool, September 1, 2005
This review is from: Food for Talk (Misc. Supplies)
this set is wonderful because it has tons of different, open ended questions and thoughts, and it's great because there are no wrong answers, which make for a fuss free discussion. The cards are also appropriate for many ages, which makes it last through the years....

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just an ordinary box ....., June 29, 2005
This review is from: Food for Talk (Misc. Supplies)
KUDOS to Julienne Smith for creating and sharing such a wonderful, useful, and fun tool to stimulate lively talk around our table!!! Previously our typical standard table talk was blah and ho hum centering mostly around the same, age-old questions of "how was your day?, how was school?, etc."

It's so easy to fall into the trap of these questions....we're all tired by the end of the day and I know for myself my brain is frazzled and can't begin to think of thought-provoking questions! But fortunately for us, Smith has taken it upon herself and has done the lion's share of the work so all we have to do is open her lovely box on our table, pull a card, and great conversation shortly ensues!!! Smith's cards include questions about life that Smith thinks up herself, quotes from people as diverse as Hoagy Carmichael, Mother Teresa and Lance Armstrong, and invitations to share such things as a best and worst memory from the past, five things that make you smile, or a recent dream. And as a side bonus, her questions have inspired our family to create our own questions that we have also added to the box!!

The ironic part is that Smith initially couldn't get a publisher willing to take a risk on her project, so she invested $20,000 of her own money, found a graphic artist and an illustrator, and self-published the project. Good on her for believing in herself and idea and willing to take the initiative and risk!! Her efforts definitely have paid off and have made a difference in many homes!! Her "Food for Talk" has won awards from the National Parenting Publications Awards and iParenting Media. You won't be sorry for buying this book!!!

PS....I hope Smith creates more questions in the future! In the meantime I plan on giving "Food Talk" as gifts to many friends and families!!

This is an excellent product. I received this as a gift and it's great! I have since given it as a gift. If you are committed to keeping communication open with your children, this is an excellent tool. Highly recommended!
