Book Description

Buckets are often used for food storage, but they can also be handy as bug-out buckets, 'specialty' buckets, and 'transition' buckets. Bug-out buckets are what they sound like. They're packed with the things you would need if you had to bug out of your home in a hurry.
'Specialty' buckets, so named because I couldn't think of anything better, are buckets you pack with things that would be a treat several years after a major SHTF event. It could include things like coffee, white sugar, store-bought candies, and non-food sundries like matches, lighters, toothpaste, and fingernail clippers. Imagine brewing up some coffee a few years after your family ran out of stored coffee!
'Transition' buckets are mainly for children, from toddlers to teens, so they have some of their own comfort things in their own bucket. They can pack, or help pack, these themselves, choosing books, toys, small games, or whatever they like, plus a few special snacks.
I've included suggestions and tips, as well as things that do and don't work, and some how-to's for storing or caching buckets. Even if you don't choose to use a bucket to store or carry these items, there are many good ideas for keeping yourself and the people you care about safe and comfortable, whether you're preparing for natural disasters or Armageddon, or anything in between.

5.0 out of 5 stars Food Storage: Bug-out Buckets January 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading about the different types of buckets the author made and the reasons for creating these buckets. She also explained how she would "bug out" with these buckets, situations where they could be used, and the reasons they were chosen over backpacks and other storage containers. She has a lot of information about how to store food and how to prepare for various types of emergencies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very generic, but... June 5, 2013

I like the author"s writing style and she communicates her ideas effectively and with humor. The content is basic so it"s probably best geared for beginners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some practical advice. March 16, 2013
By Kim
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I grew up in hurricane alley, Florida, and we always had an emergency kit. It was always in a large cardboard box that was hard to move when needed. We never thought of buckets. The specialty buckets are a good idea too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas July 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My first choice would be a backpack but she does.bring up valid points concerning keeping items dry and having the option too bury or hide them. Having small ones for kids is great. Easy to read and at a reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful April 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I appreciate this brief book as a sort of checklist to compare with my own notes & ideas. And I'm glad it is neither alarmist nor full of extreme political ideology, as too many "prepper" books & blogs tend to be. I'm NOT a prepper. I don't accept that as an identity. I'm a regular person who incidentally wants to take a few precautions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Learned something new about prepping March 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've never heard of Bug-Out buckets so I am happy that I purchased and read Food Storage: Bug-out Buckets, Specialty Buckets, and Transition Buckets for Preppers by Susan Gregersen. Her book details the differences between each of those buckets, how to store the buckets and the advantages of preparing each bucket.

The book would have been better written, if there was a bit less explanation of why it was so important to prepare the buckets. At times the continuous repetition clouded how to prepare the buckets.

Recommend with caveats given.

1.0 out of 5 stars Food storage? March 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the title i thought it would have more info.on food storage! This book is more about using a bucket as a bug out bucket. I can't imagine bugging out with a 5 gallon bucket! So i was disapointed in this one..
