The book "Food" is by far the best book I have ever read. It definately gives the reader a lot of insight. Susan points out the do's and do'nts and goes into great detail as to "why not". At first, the title of the book did not interest me because I thought "Oh, no! Not another book to tell us not to eat cake, pizza, ice cream." Anybody can tell you that. It's just common sense! She does'nt do that. She truly reveals the facts about FAT and she is not afraid to tell you about the "Big Boys." I like that. It is no longer a guessing game. The information in this book has helped me to lose twenty five pounds, plus! Susan makes sense to me. Her books have not only helped me physically but also mentally. She is a very motivational individual and a true inspiration. I would reccommend the book "Food" to anyone who needs help trying to figure out what to eat and how to get healthy!

This is THE BOOK!!!!,

I read this book about a week ago, and have been implementing some of the information. I feel that her recipes are wonderful! As well she is precise, and to the point. I have never felt this good about myself as far as controlling what I put into my mouth. I would reccomend this, and all her books thus far to anyone who is serious about their well being. I am glad I came upon her books and read them with the full intent of seeing results. Her books show the truth about what foods are good for you, and what foods arent. All I have to say is Thank You, Susan. You are great!!!

Being a fellow aussie, I was surprised at Susan Powter's 'american' writing style. I do not like the hype, chatty style in which she conveys her message. However, it IS a good message! High volume, high quality, low fat eating. For someone like me who has spent a good 25 years on the diet seesaw, it is a refreshing change to come across a sensible approach to food. The information seems to be well researched but somehow lacking in depth. She skims the surface of many issues, fat, dairy products, sugars and chemical additives in our foods but does not go into details. Just as I would get into a particluar subject, the chapter would end abruptly or move onto another subject, (mostly her!). I can highly recommend her philsophy - it just takes alot of wading through Susan's verbosity to get to it!

Our building has a bin in the laundry room where people put things that they don't want anymore, in case someone else in the building would like to have them. That's where I found "Food" by Susan Powter. As someone who is sick to death of "fad diets" and believes that carbs convert to starch, then to sugar, then to fat, I didn't hold out much hope for the book. But it surprised me. I absolutely *love* this book, but am reading it very slowly, one small section at a time. It's a bit overwhelming to take in all at once because Ms. Powter is such a powerful speaker, but she speaks good, common sense and has an uncanny knack for knowing what you're thinking, and saying so. I find her style delightful, her research & references sound, the medical information challenging (who knew how many different kinds of fats there are, and what they are?), and her sense of humor refreshing. I like the way she backs up her statements, I liked finding out that I'm not the only one who has qualms about eating animal products. Although I'm not getting radical or turning vegan or anything, I can now see where the fats come from, exactly how much protein we *really* need and where we can get it, exactly what is supposed to be so great about dairy, what it has to offer, and where *else* I can get that. I'm drinking water for the first time in my life, taking vitamins, and most importantly, reading labels, in the store, and teaching my sons how to do so also. We are all implementing her ideas, with good results, slimming down and feeling more energetic for the first time since I was disabled ten years ago. By the time I am finished with this book, and its recipies, and everything else I plan to do with the next book (which I've already ordered), who knows? Might get those Gwen Stefani abs yet, and just in time for summer too...ahh...thank you, Susan, for showing me how to get rid of the flab and eat right, feed my kids healthy, whole foods, cut the garbage out of my diet and take control of my kitchen. I hope this book does the same for others, but my advice is to be patient with it. Take your time, don't go gonzo making huge sudden changes. It is written to cover three phases of changing your diet, so take it slow. Baby steps. Do that, and it will work for you. The best thing about it is that you learn to eat more, not less. You can eat as much as you want, whenever you like. It is *what you eat* that the book deals with, and if you're thinking that it's a bland, yucky diet, no way. The recipies are absolutely delicious with next to no fat, and there are a lot of recipies in there. Tons. And kids like them too. If you're wondering whether or not to buy this book, I'd have to say go for it, and take it seriously. It has more benefits than I can possibly list here, so enough said. See for yourself!

I'm so excited! IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HEALTH ISSUES AND FOOD, FOOD AND HOW IT DIRECTLY AFFECTS YOUR BODY, MOTIVATION to get up and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT(you know what I'm talking about), this is the best gift you could give yourself. I'm dead serious. Grab this book before it is truly gone...Susan Powter speaks up from personal experience and so am I.

A simple way to fully understand food.,

This review is from: Food (Mass Market Paperback)
Susan Powter's FOOD is a priceless collection of information about what we eat. She presents us with unbiased facts that are usually covered up by the greedy "boys" of the food industry. Unlike in school when we had a brief, confusing chapter to study on nutrition, she has presented us with info we can remember, and why it affects us. Along with plenty of delicious recepies to try, she educates us with cooking tips to help improve what we're already cooking for the family. Before you eat another peice of chicken or drink another glass of milk, you must read this book

Written a while back true. But the facts inside are still true, and many new facts about bad food entering our food chain coming out new, are mentioned in this book. I condider this book her best. It exposes the corperate food inc's for food laced with chemicals.
