5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Versatile Product
All of the FoodSaver Bulk Canisters are great for a variety of things. This 2 qt. is perfect for storing a head of lettuce. You can keep lettuce fresh for up to two weeks without it getting soggy and brown. There's nothing worse then lettuce slime! The Bulk canisters are also great if you have a large family and can't marinate enough meat in the square marinating...

Our Tilia unit sits prominently on the kitchen counter and it gets used numerous times a day! I have 20 of their white dome top designer canisters and six of the bulk food canisters.

Even though the bulk ones are great for cookies, cereal, a lot of different corn chips and crackers they have a design problem in that the tops get almost microscopic stress cracks which allow the air the enter and makes them useless. Now here is the KICKER, Tilia says that these tops can not be put in the diswasher, and even though we have hand washed these tops I believe the stress cracks develop truough time and NOT misuse! I mean c'mon now how are you going to misuse these dumb things they don't work well as frisbees at all. Matter of fact the square bulk canister top .... oh well you get the point

So ... Tilia will replace the item free of charge BUT ONLY UP TO 1 YEAR AFTER purchase.......ALSO WORSE, they do not replace only the tops OR the plastic rings that have a tendency to stretch after time and usage!

I askied Tilia if they were NUTS or what .... I spend 25 bucks fo a canister and run the risk of having to dump it if it cracks after 1 year!

So far I now have 3 canisters with stress cracks and I had Tilia replace 3 of them already! Tilia told me they aren't gonna replace any more of them and I told I sure ain't buying any bulk canisters.....

I did find that using an expoxy glue that comes in two seperate tubes to be mixed and is sold at ACE will fill in the cracks after the epoxy hardens if you put the glue on while trying to get a vaccum .... that way the expoy gets sucked into the tiny tiny cracks ... So far so good, let you know next yearif I still got any bulk containers left ....

TILIA YOU GOT A GREAT PRODUCT I'M AN AVID CUSTOMER BUT FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH THE BULK CANISTERS NOW .... OR AT LEAST REPLACE THE TOPS ONLY these items are too too expensive to be worthless after ony a few years !!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't hold a seal in the refrigerator, February 18, 2005
By
This review is from: FoodSaver 2-Quart Bulk Storage Canister (Kitchen)
I bought this large container hoping to use it for storing salad veggies. Unfortunately, the seal will not hold in the refrigerator. I get it to seal, put it in the refrigerator and when I retrieve it later for use, I can pull the cover right off. At first I assumed I was doing something wrong. However, I have had this happen each and every time I tried this (at least five times now), even though I followed all directions, made sure there was no moister on the rim, etc., etc.

The container is great for storing dry goods in the pantry--the seal holds just fine there. If you want this for anything other than that, do not purchase this particular type of container.

The Bulk canisters are also great if you have a large family and can't marinate enough meat in the square marinating canister. Also great for storing staples in your pantry. I find that after talking to people, Tilia products are most often found "faulty" because people don't read instructions or watch the videos that come with the machines. This canister can NOT go in the freezer OR the microwave. The only downside other than that is the fact that these canisters are large, and most people won't have room for them in the fridge. Make sure you check the dimensions of your fridge before you order. Tilia is a great company! They even redesigned these canisters so you don't have to buy the jar sealer to use them!

3.0 out of 5 stars Dry food saver, June 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: FoodSaver 2-Quart Bulk Storage Canister (Kitchen)
These canisters are great for storing larger amounts. Unlike the smaller "designer" series these can go in the freezer. However, you cannot put them in the microwave and they don't stack all that well. I use these and the larger sizes for flour, sugar, anything that can go in the pantry but for anything else I use the universal lids on old jars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Valued Companion to a Great Product!!, September 1, 2002

This canister is obviously great for storage of dry items such as flour and rice. But it is useful as well for marinating larger cuts of meat such as a whole chicken. I use it in the summer for marinating strips of beef. I place the beef in the canister, add a jar of my favorite salsa, and seal it overnight. I roll each beef strip with a bacon slice, secure with pre-soaked toothpicks, and place them on the grill. The FoodSaver canister is indispensable in this process as it allows the salsa to completely permeate the meat fibres and assure a tender and tasty appetizer. I often invert the canister in the fridge so that all of the meat is marinated evenly.

The large canister works well too with perishable vegetables and fruits such as lettuce and strawberries. It will be a welcome addition to your FoodSaver collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars canisters WILL crack, June 19, 2006

We have a Foodsaver Pro III and love it! We DO NOT love the fact that over half of our dozen or so VERY EXPENSIVE Storage Canisters have developed cracks that prevent holding a vacuum. Foodsaver has a major design/performance problem and a) they are too stupid to realize it or b) they are being deceptive and using dingy customer service reps to try to convince me I am doing something wrong (pray tell me, what can you possibly do wrong in connecting a vacuum tube and pushing the ON button?). Either way, foodsaver loses. I got Foodsaver to replace 5 of the containers (they replaced them with the wrong items which leads me to believe their problem is a) above) but the rest of the containers are slowly but surely cracking. I am getting by via use of various glues that I apply to the outside of the containers on top of the cracked areas. Epoxy works for sure but I have also had good luck with a thin coat over the crack of a simple Duco Cement. It is cheap and dries within an hour or so. I spent many years in industry and have been considered something of an injection molding expert. I could easily advise Foodsaver on how to put stiffening ribs in the bottom of the containers or simply increase wall thickness in the problem areas but they are only interested in denying there is a problem. I hope Foodsaver executives get wind of the problem and fire their incompetent product designers soon or they will be in danger of going out of business. That will make me sad.

These are so easy to use and work perfectly. As with anything that seals, you have to make sure the top seal is completely clean of flour etc., or you will lose your vacuum.

1.0 out of 5 stars Food Canisters WILL fail, June 3, 2006
By
This review is from: FoodSaver 2-Quart Bulk Storage Canister (Kitchen)
I have bought several of the Food Saver canisters and over half of them have developed cracks. Many cracked after the first use, but some lasted as many as four uses. I've had a couple develop a starburst pattern around the area on the bottom where the plastic is injected into the mold and the others had a single crack across the bottom also across this area. It seems that this large injection mold area that is probably sanded smooth in the process has something to do with it but the manufacturer doesn't seem to care. They use to replace them without too much problem, but the last time I called, they basically accused me of mishandling them. Filling them with dry cereal and placing them on a shelf under vacuum must be too hard on them. I've not had any trouble yet with the marinade container but I did purchase two of the small rectangular containers with the latches that lock the lid on and the smaller of the two cracked the first time it was used. I called to get it replaced, but Food Saver has had them on back order for 3 months. I hope this is a sign that they're rethinking the design. When they work, they work great, but right now they're too expensive and short lived to be worth it.it.

I've only had this canister for 2 weeks, but it works well. I haven't had any problems with it. I do make sure that I turn the knob to "Closed" before I remove the vacuum hose.
