I had never considered buying a food saver until a friend of mine shared how much she liked this. I am an empty nester and haven't quite made the switch to buying or cooking for two. This appliance keeps me from throwing out a lot of food as I had previously done. I wasn't sure that I would use it, but I was wrong.

I like to buy avocados at Costco because they are so much cheaper, but I rarely use them all before they go bad. With my food saver, I took the ripe avocados and mashed them. (Usually they would turn brown if I tried to keep them, even if I put lime juice on them.) I put them in a bag and vacuum sealed it and put it in the fridge. I just made guacamole today (5 days later). It tasted so fresh and good. I also bought flour and vacuum sealed the portion that didn't fit in my canister. I don't have to freeze it or worry about bugs in the pantry. Love it!

I was really confused when I went to buy my food saver. I saw the all automatic ones and wasn't sure about the difference. The 2400 series is considered a manual one. I was told that the automatic ones will waste the bags. I wasn't even sure about the bag vs rolls when I purchased this. Here is what I now know:

To create the bags from rolls, just cut off the desired length. The rolls are two ply and sealed on the sides. (The food saver has storage for the roll inside and a slide bar to cut the bag.) This unit can handle the smaller and the 11 inch rolls. You then seal one end of the bag by lifting the lever, putting the bag on the bar, closing the lid and pressing the button "seal". It takes a matter of seconds. You then have a bag created at the perfect size.

To vacuum pack, you fill the bag leaving 3 inches at the top.

I had a 2400 Series for 10 years and used it every day until it broke. Its one of the better appliances.

This sealer does everything I'd hoped it would. Seals bags easily and vacuum seals canning jars. I've only used it on wide mouth jars but assume it should work with regular jars too. To seal jars I had to purchase the sealer device for jars separately.

I use my 2450 mainly to vacuum pack meat (wild game & fish). It seems that 1 out of every 3 or 4 bags I pack has a leaky seal, exposing the meat to air - resulting in freezer burn. As the packer sucks air from the bag it also draws water/blood along with it. This wets the inside of the bag, near the mouth, preventing an adequate seal to form. There's no really convenient way around this except for ensuring the meat it patted dry before processing. When you're packing a dozen waterfowl or 50 lbs of elk that extra drying step becomes a real pain and waste of time.

I love it! It works great and I know that it will save me lots from being able to make single meals out of leftovers.

Exactly what I expected and what I needed. I wanted one that would work with dry aging beef bags. I'm looking forward to some good aged beef steaks.

Bought a V2450 around Thanksgiving of 2014. Used perhaps every other month (approximately 8 times). It has already malfunctioned after 8 uses. I bought some chicken on sale and packaged it yesterday 4/9/15. The seal button kept blinking, so I had to keep unplugging and plugging the unit back in for each package. It is no longer sucking out all the air and the seal tore right open. I had an older model that lastest for years and worked well, until my cat knocked it on the floor and it broke. They just keep making things cheaper and cheaper.
