These Bags Work Great With the Reynolds Handi-Vac!,

This review is from: FoodSaver FSFRBZ0226 1-Quart Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 34 Count (Kitchen)
I love my Handi-Vac and was disappointed when Reynolds stopped selling the bags, so I bought some new FoodSaver zipper bags to see if the pump would work with them. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't, which was very frustrating, but then I accidentally discovered how to make it work perfectly almost every time:
1. Fill the bag with food and close it, then lay the bag on the counter or table with its bottom facing left. 2. Press down along the "zipper" part at the top of the bag to form a tight seal. 3. Place the left edge of the Handi-Vac nozzle on the left side of the large circle on the FoodSaver bag (make sure that it touches the green part) and press the button to start the vacuum. It should work right away to remove the air. The FoodSaver bags also work great in the freezer, although they are not advertised for that purpose. Even if you had trouble with the original Handi-Vac bags, you might want to try the FoodSaver bags because their textured surface covers the entire bag, not just the bottom half, as was the case with other brand. They also seem to be thicker (and, thus, more air-tight) than the Handi-Vac bags. Cheese stored in the refrigerator in FoodSaver zipper bags seems to stay fresh longer than it did when I used the Handi-Vac bags. P.S. I think that many people who had trouble with the Handi-Vac bags were not following the most important part of the instructions: You have to make sure that the food in the bag touches the textured layer. I noticed that if you hold the bag upright and put the food (such as a small piece of cheese) inside, it may not reach up that far. The best thing to do is follow the detailed pictures in the instructions and lay the bag flat on the counter. Then you can move the food to make sure that part of it touches the textured layer. In addition, as stated in the instructions, after the "ON" button is pressed, it takes several seconds for the bag to begin to tighten around the food. This is normal. P.P.S. Recently, it started taking a long time for my Handi-Vac to suck the air out of the zipper bags, so I changed the batteries. Afterwards, I was amazed at how fast it worked!

I purchased a set of these quart bags when I purchased my Freshsaver. I have used mine for cheese, and also for cereal.
You can wash these by hand, or even in your dishwasher I read in the accompanying info. I just wash mine by hand. They don't suggest reusing them for raw meat or poultry or anything that is greasy which makes sense to me. Otherwise, once washed you can reuse them. You just seal them like a Ziploc bag, then apply the Freshsaver System to the upper right hand side, where there is this green rimmed circle. Directions are on the bags. Very easy! The bags seem very sturdy. Alittle pricey you may think, but reusing them will help to defray the cost.

I accidentally ordered these, thinking that I was ordering the bags that the foodsaver melts closed. I was initially disappointed, until I tried them. They work really well, and are perfect for things like a week's worth of lunch meat, where you're re-sealing frequently. I also like them for slightly moist food, since the moisture won't climb up the canister hose.
I use them until the contents are gone, then throw them away, rather than trying to wash and re-use. So far, they have been flawless.
