I have been using Foodsaver products for years and have been very satisfied. I did have a Reynolds Hand Vacumn Sealer that I had bought at a supermarket. That thing was a pain from the day I bought it. It would take forever to get the vacumn to start working. I had to adjust the bags over and over to get a good vacumn. When I saw that Foodsaver came out with one I had to have it. I was not disappointed. This thing works amazingly well. It pulls an unbelievably fast vacumn on the sealer bags. Especially good for storing leftover cheeses and coldcuts. The hose retraction works well. One recommendation, buy the cheaper bags at the grocery store. I still buy the Reynolds bags. They work well and on sale they are about one third the price of the Foodsaver brand bags.

Works well in our home where we need something simple and easy. Great retractable cord, feet that stay put on our granite counters and there is no work for me to remove all the air from bags. I have arthritis so the vacuum-sealer has to do all the work. I had a Reynolds Hand Vacuum Sealer but this product works better.

It works well with the less expensive Ziploc Vacuum freezer bags which I discovered after Reynolds discontinued there products. Also, I have used it successfully in the freezer even though this product is only recommended for refrigerator use. I was planning to buy the Food Saver V2040 Vacuum system for freezer use but there are too many negative reviews at Amazon.

I had one of those battery operated hand held sealer wands. It worked ok for a while, but then got harder to get the vacuum hole open on the bags so I checked this out. It really works well with the bags from that hand wand system. It doesn't take long for it to open the hole and start to vacuum, and once started it really vacuums fast and tight. There's a couple vacuum containers what comes with it too. The price was right and the machine really works well.

Doesnt suck as much air out of the bag as I would like, but does work okay. Seals steaks and meats tightly but not as tight with liquid. Maybe it's not supposed to. Love the small amount of counter space it uses. The cheaper bags work just as well as the food saver bags. I think the food saver bags are a little thicker. Would recommend for small usages.

I bought this primarily to have a convenient handheld way to seal my regular FoodSaver canisters which I use all the time. Initially I was irritated that the sealer only fit it's own FoodSaver "Containers" and not the FoodSaver "Canisters" - FoodSaver, please, give us a break on the deceptive semantics! But this morning I dug out my FoodSaver Jar Sealer adapter, put it on top of one of my old canisters and easily sucked the air out as I watched the brown sugar shrink! The mouth of the sealer fits perfectly on the jar adapter.

Instructions are lousy. But product works well to store food for about 6 months max, provided you pump air several times. Important to place pump directly on opening and hold parallel to the bag. Propping bag on a 1 inch cutting board and allowing filled portion of bag to hang over the board enables a better seal.

Used bag as well as plastic container. Bags provide a better seal, but make sure to clean pump if placing more liquid content in the bag. If you 1st place liquid in a clean plastic bag then seal, you pump will remain clean.

Plastic container doesn't hold seal very well. Contents expanded in freezer, thus loosening seal. Don't fill to the brim. Haven't tried again.

Pump attached with retracting cord. In order to retract, pull slightly then let go. Feet grips extremely well to counter, doesn't slip.

Overall, very handy device. Also sufficiently attractive to leave on counter.

If you don't need a full sized Foodsaver, you just need the vacuum for the salad in a jar idea, then you can get these 1/4 inch OD one-touch tube fittings (commonly used to hook up ice maker water lines) to hook up the FoodSaver T03-0023-01 Wide-Mouth Jar Sealer using the Foodsaver accessory hose:

NB: This kludge requires that you cut the vacuum tube on the Foodsaver unit and the accessory hose.

Cut the vacuum tube on the Foodsaver near the end of the bag sealer (leave 2 inches) at the end of the vacuum tube - DO NOT LET THE VACUUM TUBE RETRACT INSIDE THE MAIN UNIT.

Cut the accessory hose half way between the two tips at the ends.

Insert the vacuum tube from the main unit into the One-Touch Tube Fitting Coupler. Then insert one of the cut ends of the accessory hose into the coupler.

You can remove the accessory hose and reattach the bag sealer by pushing on the outer end of the coupler and then inserting the short tube from the bag sealer (that's why you left about 2 inches of the vacuum tube sticking out of the bag sealer).

One bonus is that you now have two accessory tips to use.

You can also use a tee coupler combined with the plug if you want to leave the bag sealer or the accessory hose hooked up all the time.

Yes, it would be more convenient if Foodsaver put an accessory port on this unit.

Despite instructions and advertising indicating the sealer works with all Foodsaver vacuum containers, it does not work with the Foodsaver canisters. I called Foodsaver customer service asking for the adapter. Their representative advised that it only works with Foodsaver containers. "You mean the Foodsaver cannisters are not Foodsaver containers? Rep: "No, thats not what we mean by container"

It does come with an adapter, just not compatible with canisters. Clearly, a simple adapter would make the connection. A disappointing misrepresentation by Foodsaver. I returned the item the day I received it. Unfortunately, I did not read all the reviews before purchasing. A previous reviewer already made this discovery.

I live in a motor home on the road. I use this machine for dehydrated foods, leftovers, paperwork and anything else that I want to protect. It has worked fine for everthing I have used it for. I do use the foodsaver bags and have had no operation problems. Another reviewer recommended hanging the bag over the counter and occasionally I do have to do that. I like the compact design and it has worked just fine. I do own the vacume sealer for long-term storage, something this system is not intended for. That is my only complaint to this point and I use it almost daily.

The vacuum pump seems about as powerful as the full size foodsaver unit, but it takes up a lot less space on the counter. Makes it convenient to vacuum seal snacks,etc.
