Don't say you haven't been warned. I have had 2 of these products crack after first use. I bought 3 and Amazon already replaced one. I'm trying to return ALL of them. There is some sort of design or manufacturing flaw in this product.

Don't get me wrong, I love all my other Foodsaver containers, but NONE of them have cracked on me like this one.

UPDATE 10-26-2005: The 3rd one developed a crack just like the previous....go figure.

We bought several. Treated with care, hand washed, used lower pressure, never dropped. All cracked in less than 10 uses.

Great little foodsaver canister. The locking lid is a great feature which also creates "handles" that make it easer to lift and transport. And if you didn't know...all of the rectangular foodsaver containers use the same size lid (unlike the round canisters)....and if you get the 2 qt rectangular canister that comes with the cheese grater...the grater fits in all of the rectangular canisters, too.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars...is that I think the lids should have been flat so that you could stack multiple containers on top of each other. Without the lids on (like when storing them in your cupboard), the containers are stackable...just would have been nice if they could be stacked with the lids on too.

I have been using my canisters for a few months with nothing but praise for them. I wash them by hand and try to be very careful with storage. By any chance, are the products that are cracking being washed in the dishwasher? I'm afraid that it would be very hard on the plastic, but I may be wrong.

I am a huge vacuum canister fan, and this 1 qt is great for storying left overs, and especially marinating small items. It works very well and hold a seal well. Just make sure that the rubber gasket is perfectly dry before sealing, I had a seal not hold from that.

I bought one of these and it lost the top suction button the first time I washed it so it didn't work anymore. I couldn't find the piece so I returned it for a replacement. However these models are far sturdier plastic than the round canisters that come with a food saver. All of those I have cracked and my sisters did too. So I am counting on this one to last much longer and hoping the first one losing it's rubber top button was just a fluke. Another nice feature is it's rectangular shape, much easier to fit in the refrigerator than round canisters.

Ordered this in January of 2011. Use it to store opened cheese packages and the vacuum holds. Came back online rignt now to order 2 more for other kinds of left overs.

I bought this as a gift for my mom and dad. They were THRILLED to get this product and the others that went along with it. I wanted to make sure they had extra containers to store food... so they could share with their favorite daughter when they had extra!!! :D

We've had a FoodSaver machine for about 4 years and love it; we've even given a few as gifts. But we've finally had it with all of their canisters, and will never buy another. They're just made too cheaply, and do not last.

This goes for both the round and the rectangular versions, we've purchased several of each size / configuration over the years. Most recently, we bought 2 each of the 1, 1.5 and 2 quart rectangular canisters, and 3 out of 6 have already cracked -- and so will no longer hold a vacuum -- after only 6 weeks of service. That's right, they lasted just long enough for the return period to expire (either to Amazon or to the manufacturer). And there's no warranty on them!

I think we've used enough of these products long enough that it isn't user error, nor have we abused them in any way (hand washing, and no kids in the house). The only FoodSaver canister-type products that provide any useful life are the quick marinator and the meal/lunch/leftover containers. All the rest are crap, and expensive crap, at that.

It's a shame, too, because it seems that if the canisters were molded just a little thicker and/or made of a less brittle platic, they would last much longer.

On the strength of some very positive user reviews on this site, we've just placed an order for some FreshVac Professional containers FreshVac 3-405TC Professional 12-Piece Polycarbonate Vacuum-Sealing Food-Storage Container Set with Dividers, which have a lifetime warranty.

As it is, we now have a dozen or so unused FoodSave canister lids lying around. You can't buy just a replacement canister withou the lid, even if you wanted to.
