I ordered this model upon researching a little at various local retailers. There are so many models to choose from so it can be mindboggling choosing one. I am thrilled with this foodsaver. Packaged smoked salmon perfectly and steak. Sealed so easily and I was actually able to operate it with ease. Contrary to the other review, this machine is not loud at all, in fact extremely quiet. Perhaps that unit was defective. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this product. It will save you time and money and pays for itself with the preservation of foods which would otherwise get tossed out.

This is just as easy as using zip lock bags, and perhaps more cost effective in the long run. There's not much to learn here when it comes to operation. It works fine and is simple. When you look at how much bags cost for this and how much standard zip lock bags cost, this tends to be a slightly, and in some cases moderately, more expensive alternative. I feel that when you add in how much you could save with being able to use food that would have gone bad in conventional zip lock bags then you begin to see the value that can be had.

Obviously if you never freeze anything and don't store many leftovers then you probably won't see any value in this. We tend to cook a lot of food and store leftovers and purchase our food in bulk. So this has been a great way to preserve food for much longer periods of time. This can really help with not letting food go to waste, which equivelates to savings $$$. For the savings to be very substantial this would need to be a long term way of doing things. When it comes down to it you could reuse bags and plan your meals around what you have sealed already. It's much quieter than my blender and seals fairly quick. The sealing process makes no noise at all, it's just the vacuum process that's a little noisy (it's really not that loud though).

*Pros:

1. There is a Potential Savings; depends on habits and what you'd be replacing with this.

2. You can reuse bags without much hassle.

3. Can help eliminate/lessen freezer burn because of the lack of oxygen in each sealed bag.

4. Quick and easy to use.

5. Truly up to 5X longer shelf life on certain products when stored properly.

*Cons:

1. This unit doesn't come with an internal storage for rolls of bags.

2. No bag cutter comes with it or is integrated into the system.

3. Cost of bags is probably where they make a good chunk of their money, depending on what you are replacing with this system you could save money up front, but it's likely to be a long term savings instead.

4. It would have been nice if it'd come with just one container to use the tube attachment with.

**Overall:

I've not had any issue with it. Sure it makes noise, but unlike another reviewer I feel it's not very loud. I think it's a great for eliminating wasteful habits, just make sure that you recycle the by product of your food saving.

I have always wanted a vacuum foodsaver. The benefits of sealing foods are well known, but what was not known and came as a big surprise to me was the first time that I used it how loud it is. I NEVER thought that I would need OSHA Approved hearing devices to use a kitchen appliance. This thing is loud. Other than that so far so good.

The only other complaint that I have is there are 2 little plastic pieces that came with it. I have no idea what they are for or where they go. There is noting mentioned about them in the rather limited instructions.
