Product Description

Size:180

One capsule of NOW® Green Tea Extract with 200 mg EGCg possesses the phytonutrient content equal to about 2-3 cups of green tea.  Green Tea Extract contains numerous compounds, including Polyphenols and Catechins, that provide potent antioxidant benefits.  One Catechin in particular, EGCg, has demonstrated extraordinary free radical quenching power in laboratory studies.  In non-clinical studies, EGCg has also been shown to be protective against chemical and environmental assault on tissues and helps to support healthy cell cycle regulation.*

Studies have found that EGCG - which is the component of green tea that is largely responsible for all the amazing anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-Alzheimer's benefits - is very poorly absorbed. In fact, if you take it with a protein-containing food (especially one that contains the amino acid proline, which is really high in dairy), it pretty much negates all its benefits as it keeps your body from absorbing it.

I'm a nutrition student and am in the middle of writing a report/scouring the journals for information on EGCG. Current research shows that it is best taken first thing in the morning, after fasting all night, with 1000 mg of high quality fish oil from salmon, 200 mg of ascorbic acid (vitamin c) and AWAY from protein.

I love this product because it's incredibly cheap, has a high amount of EGCG and some vitamin C, though I also take it with citrus bioflavanoids for some extra C. Sometimes I'll take it at the same time I'm eating an orange or a little fat, but always away from protein.

If it makes you nauseous, start with one pill and some fruit. Rarely do I take more than one at a time. Side note: it's likely the small amount of caffeine that's responsible for the nausea. If you tolerate caffeine/black coffee or tea well, you're unlikely to have issues with this.

Having significant symptoms, but resisting invasive surgery (non-invasive treatments were not covered), I searched for alternatives. I found a recent journal article in the International Journal of Women's Health, August 6th, 2013 "Treatment of Symptomatic Uterine Fibroids with Green Tea Extract: a Pilot Randomized Controlled Clinical Study" which showed that the use of Green Tea Extract in the treatment group resulted in shrinkage of uterine fibroids up to 33% in 4 months (those in the placebo, or untreated group, fibroids increased in size over the 4 months by about 25%). There was also a previous study (~2010) which involved mice which showed similar results.

Within 3 days of taking the EGCg I could feel a difference. Now after a week, I know it isn't my imagination that the fibroids are getting smaller (largest one=cantaloupe size, can't mistake that).

The article also discusses the pathways affected resulting in the fibroids shrinking down.

I'm thankful for finding this information and this product.

I wanted to share this with other women who may be helped as well.

This is a wonderful product. I was taking Adderall for my MS fatigue and it was ok, but the crash sucked. I bought this and it gives me the same energy without the crash. It's a steady stream of energy, without the chemicals from the pharmaceuticals. I prefer this now over the Adderall, and it's a lot cheaper and natural.

I use this to keep my white blood count low. In early stage CLL, it seems to reverse the white blood count by about 25%. Take two a day and it seems to work for me and has for the last 2 years.

I have been taking this for about 6 months now and can notice a difference in my skin. It's less blotchy and I get fewer pimples.

There is pretty good science backing up green tea, specifically EGCg as helpful in promoting weight loss. If you are modifying diet and exercising in an effort to lose weight, this will support that. I found it did not result in jitters as with some similar products. The actual amount of EGCg in this product is very high for the cost in comparison to competitors. Definitely a high quality product. I would stack with fucoxanthin and CLA. Don't expect miracles, but if you like purchasing supplements to support diet or fitness goals, I would recommend it.

These pills caused liver abnormalities in me. EGCG should not be taken at such a high dose. They work fine, but caused some liver problems.

The NOW brand stood out to me when I first decided I was going to try the green tea extract to help me with energy/weight loss. The first month I had some results, about 2% body fat came off. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling the positive changes in my momentum or energy though. I still felt rather lethargic after a hard day of work. I was a bit disappointed in that aspect but I knew going in this was far fetched so any results as all impressed me.

My biggest complaint other than the lack of energy would definitely be the size of the pills. They're difficult to swallow and I have a hard time with pills altogether so that certainly doesn't help. After the first bottle I decided to move to a smaller dose- Green Tea Extract 100 Vcaps (350mg) + FREE Pure Caffeine Powder 25 Grams + Primaforce Yohimbine HCL 90 Capsules. Taking less of the green tea extract with additional supplements (yohimbine, pure caffeine) actually gave me the jump start I needed. I felt mentally and physically prepared. My first month using the combination of the 3 was killer compared to green tea extract alone. Hoping month two continues in its path!
