I get severe cold sores every six months or so. A nurse friend told me to take this when I first have the tingling. I have done so and so far, two years, no cold sores. It works. No need to take it every day, just as you feel the tingling and then a few times a day for three or four days.

Now that I'm in dentures, I was getting little sore spots in my mouth from inadvertently biting my lip, tongue or cheek. Very annoying, but a nurse friend suggested I start taking Lysine to help the healing process and it has really helped. It also helps to ward off cold sores.

i recently discovered lysine, and its wonderful effects on the skin. I've tried all the acne meds out there, nothing worked consistently. This stuff rocks.

Great stuff for cold sores. I never get them anymore now that I pay attention and take one capsule on experiencing that familiar feeling that says a cold sore is coming.

Be careful - the sellers are advertising this one incorrectly. The 250-count bottles are 500mg pills, not 1000mg, and it doesn't show the difference until you check out. It's definitely not as great a deal as they want you to think.

After I got influenza a few years back I got the worst cold sore outbreak I've ever had. I was a mess. A doctor prescribed me an antiviral. Later another doctor who I was having drinks with (and not on the clock) confirmed that the prescription antivirals aren't really very helpful. I've never had any luck with them anyways. She told me to take large doses of lysine (5000 mg a day) each day if I feel an outbreak starting and it should nip it in the bud. I had nothing to lose and lysine is super cheap.

The next time I felt that familiar soreness and tingling, I started taking lysine. The next day there was no swelling and the tingling and pain were 100% gone. I kept this up for years without a single outbreak.

Sometimes if you act slowly you can't help it. Once it gets the white swells of visible pus, you are doomed to a beautiful cold sore. It takes some getting used to to know when is too late. Sometimes the difference between too late and just in time is only an hour or two. You need to just have this on hand and start it the second you feel anything. In fact, you should start it when you know you've had a trigger. For me it's anything that causes a fever and excessive sunshine (sun is a common one, didn't learn that until this year). The key for this to work is catching it early enough.

This is the best and only cold sore cure out there. It really, really works. I am a convert. I have bottles of lysine everywhere I go frequently, so I am never surprised and miss a chance. I have one when I travel, one at work, one at home, and one at my parents' house for when I visit.

I started taking Lysine to prevent cold sores. But what I found was my overall health and immunity appears to be better all around when I am taking Lysine. No idea why, but I was very prone to catching every cold and flu that went around. I started taking Lysine, and never caught any bug going around after that.
