N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a stable form of the non-essential amino acid L-Cysteine.  It is a sulfur-containing amino acid that acts as a stabilizer for the formation of protein structures, and is also necessary for the formation of Glutathione.  Molybdenum and Selenium are essential trace minerals that facilitate the production of several important enzymes.*

No side effects for me.
P.M.
NOW is a great brand and this is the best value I've seen for good NAC.
NB
Tylenol can harm your liver and deplete glutathione.

I originally purchased NAC to counter act an unwanted symptom I was getting after taking Methyl B12. After taking Methyl B12 for about a week I began to notice that it was making me very irritable at times to the point of verbally lashing out at people for no real good reason. I researched this side affect online and found an article that explained why it was happening. It said that the agitation was related to low levels of glutathione in the nerve cells of the brain and that it was caused by the Methyl B12. They recommended taking NAC to counter act this side affect so I tried it and it did help the problem. I won't stop taking Methyl B12 because my father died from pernicious anemia and it is genetic. I also noticed that this product gave me a lot more energy than I had which was a definite plus. This stuff works.

Update July 24, 2013 - I really, really, really like this stuff and totally recommend NAC. I noticed a huge burst of energy after I started taking NAC but I didn't realize how much until I stopped taking it so I started taking it again. I also was only taking one capsule a day. If you are having any problems with fatigue this product will definitely help.

Update August 9, 2013 - I recommended this product to a co-worker that has bipolar disease as well as her daughter. She told me that this stuff really improved there condition and helped them focus. I have noticed that my co-worker has been much happier at work. I never heard of NAC until I did some research on a Methyl B12 side affect but this stuff is fantastic.

I'm a physician, and I use one of these on any day I take either Tylenol or a motrin like product.

This same compound is used in an IV form in the ER to protect your liver from damage from an overdose of Tylenol, and it is used in at least some hospitals before during and after Cardiac Catheterizations to protect the kidneys from damage from the iodine dye used for visualizing the blood flow in the coronary arteries.

A friend with depression told me NAC worked wonders for her depression, so initially I ordered some thinking it may be a good mood elevator. It sad in my cabinet, and I'd take it inconsistently with no real noticeable effects.

Flash forward a couple months, I hear about glutathione as an amazing anti aging supplement from my dermatologist (glutathione is an essential part of every cell in the human body, it's considered the "ultimate antioxidant": [...] and upon doing research on the best way to encourage glutathione...my friend NAC kept popping up again. Time to take this stuff properly (I take 3 a day) and consistently.

Bare in mind, I have tried virtually every vitamin, herb, amino acid, you name it. After a brush with health problems last year, I have become a bit of a wellness junkie: and from adding martial arts, acupuncture, vitamins, research, juicing, and all that good stuff, I can tell you no supplement or food, absolutely NOTHING has improved my overall health more than NAC. I truly feel younger, I get deeper sleep, I get out of bed after 7-8 hours feeling rested (I used to need about 9-10). I maintain a healthy weight more easily, my skin is better, I feel happier, I no longer get sick, I feel more clear-headed. It has truly made an impact in my life similar to adding in a workout routine really, it's absolutely incredible. I suspect that increased glutathione was a key part of feeling much better. My thyroid is also functioning better according to lab tests, and I can feel it as well.

I am in my late 70s and am troubled with Parkinson and things like constipation, bad blood circulation, etc. Read a great book called "Toxic Relief" by Dr. Don Colbert and this was highly recommended by him. Since I have been taking it, my nerves are steadying and the constipation problems have disappeared. Am also having better blood circulation in my legs. I also believe that I am having fewer memory and cognitive problems. I know that my overall physical health and well being is definitely in better shape. I highly recommend this for many health problems, especially for older folks.

I have fibromyalgia and a friend whose daughter has the same recommended glutathione. In my research, I read that it is difficult for the body to process glutathione supplements so you are better off to take NAC which helps your body produce glutathione. My aches and pains have been reduced after taking this product.

NAC is a great supplement and this is a lot of capsules for the price. Recommended. This may not have been clearly stated elsewhere, but it does contain molybdenum and selenium (67% and 36% daily value, respectively). That's fine with me, as they're important cofactors for glutathione synthesis (NAC is a precursor to glutathione), and even if you take a daily multivitamin, the amount is within a safe range. I like it.

After suffering through the Herxheimer/die-off/healing crisis effects of a Candida infection, I was at my wits end to find a way to detox and get rid of all the toxins in my body, which were wreaking havoc on my skin, and causing the most painful, weepy rashes, and inflamed joints. Under the care of my functional medicine doctor, and already eating a Paleo diet, I went through almost $2,000 worth of blood work, a few dozen supplements, high quality probiotics, coconut oil, cod liver oil, detox baths, and even Bentonite clay to no avail. The toxins kept building up.

Google "The Candida Diet" and one of the key ingredients in this supplement, Molybdenum, is key to the Candida detox process. One of the 79 toxins released by Candida is acetaldehyde, which is the nastiest of the bunch. It unfortunately stays in the body, and doesn't get excreted like normal. That's where this NOW Foods NAC supplement comes in: the molybdenum goes straight to the liver and converts the acetaldehyde into something more easily excreted by the kidneys: acetic acid.

The dosage on this bottle says 1 capsule 2 times a day, which is 100 mcg of molybdenum in total. However, when dealing with Candida die-off, the suggestions I've come across have recommended upwards of 250 mcg three times a day. That equates to fifteen of these NAC capsules a day. I was originally taking the bottle's suggested two capsules a day. Once I increased that, the relief was almost immediate.

When fighting Candida, remember to eat clean, stay away from sugar, take a good quality probiotic (
