I had the same problem as another reviewer with discoloration from stuff like spaghetti-o's. It sounds a little strange, but try spraying a little PAM on a paper towel and rubbing it on the 'rubbery' surfaces - worked for me with my daughter's thermoses like this. 3.0 out of 5 stars Really wanted to like this (Review updated 1/21/11)
I dont know what I could be doing wrong. I tried this 5 times in 2 days and was very dissapointed. I am really stressing trying to find a good thermos that works for my daughter at day care. I dont microwave any of her food so I want to give her warm options at daycare. I read all the great reviews and thought this would be perfect. I boiled water put it in the cup...

5.0 out of 5 stars Advice for cleaning and to keep food hot longer..., July 16, 2008
This review is from: Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10-Ounce Food Jar, Pink (Baby Product)
I had the same problem as another reviewer with discoloration from stuff like spaghetti-o's. It sounds a little strange, but try spraying a little PAM on a paper towel and rubbing it on the 'rubbery' surfaces - worked for me with my daughter's thermoses like this. I've also found that washing on the top rack of the dishwasher gets the stains (and the gross greasy residue from condensed chicken noodle soup) out very well. To keep things hotter longer, fill the thermos with the hottest tap water you can, put the lid on and leave it sit awhile, then dump out the water and fill with the hot food. It'll still be quite warm at lunch time. Hope that helps. :)

I boiled water put it in the cup for 12 minutes. Heated the pasta to very hot and after dumping the water out of the thermos immediately put the pasta in so I would not let any heat escape. I screwed the lid on tight and made sure it was on properly. 3 hours later the pasta is cold. What am I doing wrong?? It must be me since so many people have had good experiences. There are 4 hours between when I make lunch and my daughter eats there is no way this would stay warm for that long. I think maybe liquids would stay warm in this but not regular foods. Did I just get a faulty thermos? I really wanted to keep this its really cute to. My sister said stainless steel thermos's never worked for her either, maybe I will try the plastic insulated kind.

REVIEW UPDATE 1/21/11
Instead of returning this item I had amazon replace it. I figured since so many people on so many websites gave this a good review that there must have been an issue with my food jar. I am not entirely convinced that every reviewers food jar worked I really doubt some tested it before they sent there child out with it. But like a said I ordered a replacement tested it last night 1/20/10 and it 4 hours later the food was still quite warm, perfect temperature for my 1 year old. So I think that maybe my original food jar had a faulty vacuum which if it fails will not keep food warm. I plan on testing it a few more times over the weekend before sending her out with it but it was warm at 2 hours and warm at 4 hours. My first food jar didnt even keep the food warm for an hour.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10-Ounce Food Jar, Pink (Baby Product)
I bought one of these thermoses for my son's school lunch. He prefers hot food, and it said it would keep food hot for 5 hours. Plus, I thought it was nice design. Well, it works great and definitely keeps food hot for a long time. I bought a second one for my daughter's lunches. My only complaint so far is that the rubbery parts on the lid and base can discolor, especially with something like tomato sauce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great..., March 7, 2008

We just moved to colder climates last year so sandwich and chips just wasn't enough for our kids on cold days. My wife was trying to pack them a bowl that they could heat in the school microwave but our kids complained at the length of the line to the microwave.

We wanted to get a thermos that looked nice, encourages the kids to bring it back home, and was functional at the same time. So we picked these up because we could get different colors for each of the kids.

Now my wife will make them some hot soup at about 7:30 in the morning and by lunch time at 12:30 the kids have said everything is still hot. The other nice thing is they say all there friends comment them on their thermos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not keep food hot, May 20, 2009
This review is from: Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10-Ounce Food Jar, Pink (Baby Product)
I just bought this and after a full week of use, my four year old comes home each day and says that her food is cold by lunch (mac n cheese). Her preschool teacher confirms it. I put her lunch in at 7:30 and she eats at 11:30. I even filled the thermos with boiling water in the morning for 15 minutes to warm it up but to no avail. To be honest, when it arrived, I was skeptical because there is only one layer of metal that makes up the body of the thermos - adult thermoses requires a double layer. Very disappointed and sending this product back:(

4.0 out of 5 stars Small thermos that works well, May 20, 2008
This review is from: Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10-Ounce Food Jar, Pink (Baby Product)
I was surprised at how small the thermos looked when I opened the box. However, it is perfectly suitable for my needs. I bought it for my daughter to take to school. She likes that it fits in her lunch box and that it is pink. She doesn't like that there is no cup that other thermoses have. It keeps her lunch warm. I get it ready at 6:30 am and it is still warm 6 hours later.

The instructions say not to put into the dishwasher, and I haven't. It cleans easily with soap and water. I send a lot of tomato sauce in the thermos and the pink has cleaned up just fine. I thought the tomato might stain, but it hasn't. This is a great little product that I fully recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works for us, December 27, 2009

This review is from: Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10-Ounce Food Jar, Pink (Baby Product)
My daughter is 6 years old and uses this for her school lunch. It is just the right size for a kids meal (with some room to spare). I usually rinse the inside with warm water before putting the food in and 5 hours later the food is still warm.

We alternate between the Zojirushi Mini and Foogo by Thermos. Both keep the food warm for the 5 hours needed. I would not store food in the lunch box longer than that, but if this was ever required I would use the Zojirushi as it seems to keep the food warmer longer. The Foogo costs a lot less, but does not come with the extra bowls and the bag. However, I do prefer the lid on the Foogo as it seems less likely to leak - although so far none of them have.

My conclusion: Both are good products and works well for us. I like to alternate and would buy both again, but if I had to choose one I would choose the Foogo for our use. It costs a lot less, but keeps the food warm until lunch time. I feel so confident that it will not leak that I put it into the backpack without protection and use a regular small lunch bag for milk, fruit and snack.

I had a cheap plastic hot food jar for my little girl's lunchbox and after only two weeks the lid was cracked from the teacher's aides screwing it ont too tight so I needed an alternative (not to mention the food not staying too warm). I did my research and the Foogo looked like the best option. Well it WAS!! I pack my daughter's lunch at 7am and she says it's still warm at noon at preschool, and there's no chance of it cracking with that great stainless steel construction. I'm so impressed with the Foogo line I plan to purchase the matching leak proof straw cup. EXCELLENT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, June 13, 2011

Although everyone here is using this for kids, I got this to take to work with me in the mornings. I make some oatmeal before work in the morning, toss it in here before it is completely done cooking, and it is still hot when I am ready to eat it a few hours later. Perfect for someone who wants to go to the gym on the way to work and eat afterwards. The longest I have left food in here was 4 hours and it wasn't as hot, but still plenty warm to enjoy eating.

It definitely does work better if you fill it with boiling water first, which I let soak while I am cooking.
