Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of albums from the British Boogie/Rock 'n' Roll band. Fool For The City (1975) was Foghat's breakthrough album, earning a double platinum certification for over two million copies sold. 'Slow Ride' became the band's signature tune. Night Shift (1976) was produced by Dan Hartman (before he became the king of disco-pop), a member of Edgar Winter's White Trash, whose output bore some similarity to Foghat's albums. The album features 'Drivin' Wheel' as well as Foghat's take on the Al Green classic, 'Take Me To The River'. The bonus track is an album outtake, not issued until 1996. The package contains all the lyrics (for the first time) and brand new extensive notes by Bearsville Records expert Paul Myers. Edsel.

This newly released CD contains Foghat's breakthrough album Fool For The City (1975), and the band's follow up recording Night Shift (1976), with the bonus track New Place To Call Home. This edition bears the distinctive retro Bearsville label, but is actually released by Edsel, from Britain. It includes a 20 page booklet with photos of the band, album covers and artwork, lyrics and credits for all the songs, and liner notes that feature the comments of Roger Earl, and Nick Jameson.

In 2012, Edsel is releasing Foghat's entire Bearsville catalog in a multiple album format, grouping the 13 albums in chronological order. Parings include Foghat/Rock & Roll, Energised & Rock & Roll Outlaws, and Live/Stone Blue. Edsel is also releasing the Bearsville catalog of Utopia, and Todd Rungren, in a similar two albums on one CD format.

The 1970's was a time when the most unlikely of songs could launch a band's career, and that's what happened for the blues boogie rock band Foghat, as "Slow Ride", from their fifth album Fool For The City, became a minor hit, and propelled the band into the spotlight, after toiling for years in relative obscurity. As a result of their new found fame, songs like "Fool For The City", "My Babe", "Save Your Loving (For Me)", and "Drive Me Home", also received radio airplay.

Foghat was led by guitarist and vocalist "Lonesome" Dave Peverett (1943-2000), slide guitarist extraordinaire Rod Price (1947-2005), and drummer Roger Earl.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great set but not remastered as described May 16, 2012
Verified Purchase
If you already own these discs, do not waste your money. Although item description states that these are remastered, they are simply copied from the original 'Rhino' releases which did also say they were remastered. The sound quality for today's standards are not here. Really sad to see such a great group treated so badly just so a company can make more money for same items already released with no changes in the sound. Booklets included are good reading though.

4.0 out of 5 stars REMASTERED? May 18, 2012
GOSH! ROGER and the gang deserve so much better[ LIKE REMASTERED ALBUMS], the 'HAT is so loved and respected around the globe. I've had the entire collection in ALL formats.Just purchased Rock And Roll Outlaws with Energized,Still gonna get Stoe Blue somewhere yet!Folks, you can't go wrong with this collection[shame it's NOT a remastered edition]. Really GOOD 70's hard rock act with a touch of the blues.Singles included are "SLOW RIDE", DRIVING WHEEL", "FOOL FOR THE CITY",TAKE ME TO THE RIVER", BALLADS include are "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT", "I'LL BE STANDING BY". FOGHAT formed to rock and they do well on these 2 albums.
