Book Description

October 1998
He's back, with more of the far side of fine art. Just when you think you've gotten the hang of identifying ducks with a field guide, you find yourself standing in front of a Will Bullas painting. Right away you figure out that you may as well forget everything you ever learned about Indian Runner ducks (and elephants, rabbits and pigs, for that matter). There's something funny going on around here, and it's not just what Will Bullas paints, it's the pairing of madcap imagery and zingy one-line titles.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

The animals that skulk, waddle and leap out of Will Bullas' imagination have a lot more personality and purpose than we've been led to expect by zoologists. There are no garden-variety creatures here. His extraordinary talent in watercolor is free of pretension and brimming with fun and mischief. Have you ever met the Storkbroker? How about the Mistletoad? And who's to say that a duck can't experience "joie de vivre" or an ape may not be suddenly overcome with world weariness? Here are over one hundred new watercolor one-liners for you, so cozy up and waddle in. You'll find plenty of zany friends inside.

About the Author

Will Bullas was born in Ohio and raised in the Southwest. He was majoring in art at Arizona State University when he was drafted to serve in Vietnam. Returning from military duty, he took up his art studies at the Brooks Institute of Fine Art in Santa Barbara, California where he studied with Ray Strong. He supported himself as a printer, until striking out on his own and gaining a growing group of dedicated, enthusiastic collectors including Clint Eastwood, George Lucas and John Madden. Will lives and works in rural Carmel Valley, California not far from his Will Bullas Fun Art store in Carmel. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and the Knickerbocker Artists of New York.

A must-have coffee table book. No one that has come into my home since I bought Bullas' book has failed to pick it up and laugh. A great compliment to my taste and Bullas' charm. My teenagers love the book. I've given it as gifts to friends of all ages (my mother loves his work). Thanks for offering something so special.
