3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read
I've seen Jan speak in person and she's very inspiring. I have plenty of fools in my life and wanted to read more on the subject. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers in this book but she does make it clear that we can't change our fools. We can detach; we can change our reactions but it's still a journey each of us has to travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Blessed me with this book, May 8, 2000
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
In January I was in a lot of pain because of the inner struggle that my husband was going through and how it was effecting our relationship. Through a long chain of God-handed events, I attended a Moody Bible Seminar where Jan Silvious was the featured speaker. I couldn't believe that she was speaking directly to my problem. I got both her book and the tape and listened again to the wonderful way that she presented how to live with a "foolish" person. Her message is that there was a way to separate from the conflict without separating from the person, especially when he was otherwise so good. Through her words, I found a way to keep my husband's painful words in context, which enabled me to keep him in my heart and my life. Unfortunately, he died in April of a sudden heart attack, and now I can only be eternally grateful that I was able to share much happiness in those last few precious months with him, and not forever regret that I let words spoken from internal pain rob us of the short time we shared. He was only "foolish", and now, he sees clearly. I have given all 5 copies of the book that I got to friends who are also looking for some alternative ways to understand and deal with the "fools" in their lives and I am at this site again to order more copies. This book has been a great blessing in my life, and I hope that it will bless many more relationships with alternatives to leaving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gave me my life back, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
I was at the point with my previous husband that I tried to kill myself. Didn't work. The next month I heard Jan speak on this topic and immediately got this book. I realized that I had been living with a fool all along, and that I had let him change me. Many people don't believe me when I say this, but after this book and much MUCH prayer, God let me leave my husband. I realized that what I was going through was abuse and God wanted me out of that situation. I am so glad that Jan wrote this book. Without it, I might have tried suicide again. With it, and God, I am healthy now with a new, wonderful, Christ-centered husband and 2 lovely children. Thank you Jan.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED THIS, November 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
I absolutely adored this book. It came at a time in my life where I was letting my "fool" control me and really change my personality. This book showed me that I was not going crazy, like I thought that I was, and that there is a way to deal with the "foolish" people in my life in a biblical manner. I felt so much better after reading this...I reccommend it to ANYONE who has a troublesome person in their life...

4.0 out of 5 stars well worth reading...., August 15, 2006
By
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
This book is an excellent discussion of the sad truth about many difficult relationships and the people who make them so difficult. The connection to Proverbs and the use of the word 'fool' in the truest and non-colloquial sense sheds light on the most frustrating aspect of such individuals - they are foolish in the extreme and can not or will not revise their behviours to improve their relationships. Still want to live with one? You must read this book....

If you have a difficult relationship, and don't know how to say "no", this book can help. I struggled with a bad relationship with my father, who was demeaning and abusive when I was a child. This book really helped me to deal with those issues and set boundaries, so that we can have a better relationship today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Life-changing, September 12, 2007
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
This book opened my eyes, wide open, to the unhealthy situation I'd been in for many years. Two major things happened: 1. I realized I wasn't such a bad person after all and deserved to be treated respectfully. 2. That I am accountable for my feelings and for my response to people and circumstances in my life. Perhaps these are obvious statements, but when you are caught in a relationship that brings you down, the obvious starts getting a little foggy. This book inspired me to change my perception of myself and my response to those around me - in a very positive way - because you can't change other people. It helped me be responsible for my own happiness - because no one else can make you happy. It made me dig deep and explore who I really am and what direction I want to take my life ... not in the many directions other people wanted me to go. I am forever changed. I have given this book to a couple of other people I thought would benefit from it. They did ... immensely. Learn how to pinpoint those difficult relationships in your life, what makes them difficult, and how to deal with them and yourself in a healthy way. Bless you, Jan Silvious.

5.0 out of 5 stars A not so foolish reader, October 30, 2003
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
What can I say about this book but EXCELLENT! The author first takes you to the book of Proverbs to describe a biblical fool then she proceeds to explain how to deal with the fool in your life. I especially enjoyed the tone in which the writer used in this book. She is like a wise friend that encourages you on the road to biblical wisdom. I also appreciate the scripture the verses at the end of each chapter. The author gives you a moment to reflect on what the Word says and then leaves space to write down your responses.

I recommend this book to anyone whether they currently have a fool in their life at this moment. This book is so full of biblical wisdom and practical insights that you can refer to it again and again for guidance.

By A Customer
This review is from: Foolproofing Your Life: Wisdom for Untangling Your Most Difficult Relationships (Paperback)
In a world bent on politcal correctness,we are becoming bent on "enabling" bad behavior. This books brings a freeing balance to the difficult person that a person may love & hold dear, and not sure how to help without sinking into the quicksand yourself. An absolute must read if you are in ministry.........very practical, and honest....with hope for the person who has to deal with their difficult person,No matter what the outcome of the choices that difficult person makes for themselves. We have a choice however not to be dragged into their misery. Awesome!
