Great step-by-step guide to foot throws,
By
This review is from: Foot Throws: Karate, Judo and Self-Defense (Paperback)
I had the great pleasure of getting the snot kicked out of me by Dr. Nishioka at a judo seminar some 20 years ago. He is not only one of the best practitioners ever to compete in the sport but an excellent instructor and lecturer as well. I learned more during those few hours than I did in many of the preceding months.
This fine text covers the dynamics of sweeps, reels, and leg throws in an easy to read and understand manner. While you cannot learn any martial art purely from a book, the graphics are clear and the step-by-step explanations are excellent. It is an excellent supplement for judo training. Practitioners of other martial arts can still benefit from understanding the principles of unbalancing and throwing an opponent. While I have studied judo in the past, I'm almost entirely focused on karate today. Many of the concepts and techniques discussed in this book are equally applicable to both arts. This review is from: Foot throws; karate, judo and self-defense
The author is a well-known judo expert who also studied karate. His insight on how to use various foot throws for karate and self-defense is superb. He covers the basic and advanced techniques in this great book. He shows how to set up and execute various foot throws for street self-defense, as well as when doing formal karate or judo.
In conclusion, this is a book for anyone who desires to learn how to use foot throws in combination with karate and self-defense situations. Rating: 5 stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art Myths-Cafe Press).
