A million examples of a banale thesis,

This review is from: Football and Chess: Tactics Strategy Beauty (Paperback)
The author keeps hammering in exactly the same thesis without ever going deeper into any interesting line of thoughts. "If you think about it, the rooks are kind of like the wingers in soccer because they both attack down the flanks!" - this startling revelation is repeaated several times. Anyone with even the most basic understanding of soccer tactics understand it already and will be dissapointed in the simplistic approach the author has.
If you already have accepted the obvious correlations between chess and soccer, there is nothing in this book for you.

Fans of England's Premier League and the royal game will enjoy Wells' free ranging ideas and observations. Who could have guessed soccer and chess share so much ground? OK, few readers will play better soccer or chess after reading 'Football & Chess'. But I suspect most (like me) will put the book down with a greater appreciation for two of their favorite sports.
