5.0 out of 5 stars There's not much left to add to this masterpiece.
I wasn't able to use the download options on SI's website, as I was deployed to Iraq at the time, so Amazon's option to get a hard copy was vital. I got the game (in Iraq!) only a few days after it was released.

If you haven't played since before 2008 or 2007, you certainly need to pick up 2010. The version is a great leap forward. Visually, it's a lot...

3.0 out of 5 stars A step in the right direction, but a step backward
On the positive side, finally tactics are easier to implement - no more sliders to worry about if you don't want them. The graphics are getting better, your staff gives you better recommendations, the database is great as always.

On the negative side - this game is more addicting than ever - Why? Because the results are more random than ever. Assembling the...

Visually, it's a lot like 2009. The game play continues to give you more power, but in a way that's easier to understand. One of the options I particularly enjoy is where, instead of moving sliders, you assign a player a "type" of position, based on where he is on the field. This will determine how he plays that position. Instead of just a Striker, you can have a Deep-Lying Forward, Poacher, Target Man, etc. It's (in my mind, at least) a more intuitive way of doing business.

I'm hopelessly addicted to FM2010.

I was addicted to the 2009 version of this game, and this one is no different.

There are a couple of motable improvements:
- Touchline instructions: You can now issue adhoc instructions without going to the tactics panel, and the options are galore. You can command your team to Stand off opponents, Pump ball into box, take more risks and so on. This is closer to what an actual manager would do, throwing in real time instructions to the player. You can also change the overall momentum, by choosing between from different playing mentalities like Attacking, Control, Counter etc.
- The renewal of contracts seem to have been revamped. You can no more trick players who were initially demanding $2 mn signing bonus into accepting 0 signing bonus.
- Each position has now unique choices, like you can ask a midfielder to just defend, support or attack, or you can put him to be a deep lying playmaker, as you deem fit.
- The news section looks better now.

As in the old one, this one has got a good game AI. Leave you defenses weak, and even a minnow can trump you. Not to mention the myraid of options available. You can command players/ clubs from even small countries like Bangladesh.

This is worth the money, for the players who are fan of simulation. However, if you are a FIFA fan, then you might not entirely like this, since this is more like a backoffice job, and you do not control player movements.

On the flip side, the application draws heavliy on the memory, so sometimes the progress can feel very slow. However, if you alter some settings, you can speed up the career advancement substantially.

Overall, I am addicted to this game. A sure buy for lovers of the simulation genre!!

The Good

Quick tactics are extremely useful - so nice to not have to keep going to the tactics screen every time you want to tweak something while in a match!

Love the way you can select players style within their position now - for example it's really quick to tell your midfielders to be "ball winner", "support", "attack" etc. Very intuitive and works well. Better than dragging arrows around.

The 3D match engine works very well. I came from FM2009, so I'm not sure how it compares to that. No more watching dots moving around the screen - yay! (although you still can if you prefer) Just don't expect anything amazing - it's crude (and a bit buggy) compared to modern 3D games.

The Bad

As before, no licensing for the Premier League and other major tournaments. Be prepared to do some searching and downloading to get the proper competition names, logos, kits, facepacks, etc.

Assistants advice becomes extremely repetitive, and after a few games you'll generally ignore most of what they say. Same with press conferences - fun for a while, then you'll end up just sending your assistant to answer the same old questions.

It seems to me that players pick up way to many injuries now (regardless of settings) so be prepared to have a big squad!

Overall, a significant improvement over previous versions. Lots of the same old FM annoyances remain, but there's enough great new stuff to keep you addicted.

Quality...performance from the lads.
To be honest with you the this is the best yet, and i think its only going to get better.
Not too sure about the STEAM start engine..as it occasionally has some glitches. But the game its self is quality.
Its addictiveness is crazy!! I'm already having problem with the wife coz i'd rather be awake at night leading Spurs onto championsleague Glory then hang out with her.

Effen Quality!!

You may find more than one football manager games, but by far this one is the best of all. After playing all the demos for Football manager 2010, fifa manager and Championship manager there is no discussion on how great, stable and complex this game is, and how far back their competitors are. The 3d engine runs good, even in a laptop XPS m1330 with a NVidia GeForce 8400M GS which has an acceptable graphic card. I play this game every single night after work, and I it is very addictive. I fully recomend this game if you're a football fan. The sound may be the only thing I consider is not that good but the interface and menus are easy to navigate.

I am a big football fan and this game has taken my understanding of the inner workings of a professional football team to a new level. Get to manage teams: tactics, players, staff, media and finances! Buy and sell players. Deal with their egos. Try and put best team forward. Manage teams during matches with decent in game action. I highly recommend this game to any fan.
This version sold in USA also works on a mac which isn't clear in the amazon description.

Warning - This game is addictive.
If you have owned previous installments in this title, it will take you time to get used to the "improvements" in this year's edition. Other than that, it is the same game, but you do have a bit more tactical control and the addition of the "touchline instructions" allows you to change tactics in game without going to the Tactics screen.
This is a highly involved simulation style game. If you enjoy playing and controlling a "player" in the game, this is not the game for you. This is a Manager simulation game. You control tactics, training, staff hiring, transfers, budgets, interact with the media, team selection, etc. If you have ever played the Manager mode on the FIFA games, or tried NFL Head Coach, it is like that - only 100 times more detailed.
It is the most detailed and involved sports management simulation game available.
I highly recommend it.

My last Football Manager was the 2008 version so I had not yet experienced the 3D match engine, so that was a nice update. But the real enjoyment comes from the updated Tactics Creator that enables a player to easily create tactics specific to the team they have and can adjust with the old slider method to perfect the tactics of individual players. Very enjoyable game with many different possibilities for success and failure.
