5.0 out of 5 stars Football-A Woman's Guide
I bought this video for my wife last year. She knew what a touch down and extra point was but did not understand 1st down, 2nd down etc. This video was right down her alley since the concept was based on a discount shopping spree. 1.0 out of 5 stars Only for ABSOLUTE football novices.
This video is okay if you are a woman who doesn't mind being talked to like a mindless mall-shopping obsessed airhead. Also, the information is very, very basic. If you know anything at all about football, skip it and move to the next level. If you're looking for any insightful clues on offensive or defensive strategy, this isn't the video for you.

I bought this video for my wife last year. She knew what a touch down and extra point was but did not understand 1st down, 2nd down etc. This video was right down her alley since the concept was based on a discount shopping spree. She wanted to learn basic rules since our son would be playing Jr. High football for the first time. My wife also appreciated the explanations of hand signals in the video. This is an excellent video for grandmoms, moms and sisters who just haven't had the opportunity or desire to learn the game of football!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, October 25, 1999

I LOVED this video. I got it for my girlfriend as a sort of gag gift, because she had been joking about how men obsess about football. We watched it together and both of us had a laugh.

The narration is snappy and humorous. The basics of the game are well explained. I'm not sure I "converted" her, but there is a lot less "What does that mean?" type questions flying around our living room. I have to admit I learned something as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This video is so funny and helpful!, February 4, 2002

This video initiated me into football. So much so that I am now a fan and actually enjoyed watching my Patriots win the superbowl! The only thing I can think of is that it can be at times a little condescending. For example comparing downs to discount shopping, which might offend some women. If that won't offend you and you really want to learn the game then GET THIS VIDEO!! You will be an expert in the BASICS in a very short time. The rest comes naturaly! GO PATS!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERY FOOTBALL WIDOW, September 27, 1999

I watched this video before watching the weekend football game with my husband. He was amazed at the knowlege that I learned and did not have to keep asking him what was happening. That gave him more time to eat & drink his beer. Getting serious - I do not feel like those books that are marked DUMMIES FOR -----are much help. This video was funny too. I can now understand the hand signals of the officials and also about the neutral zone. I also did not know that the center was the only one who could be in it before snap of ball. Now, how about one for hockey?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow. Friendly and fun way to learn the sport., October 24, 1999

I'm a single mom who was never a football fan. When my son started to play the game this fall, I was in the dark. I didn't understand what was happening on the field. I watched this tape and it was like a light balb went off for me. Also, I liked the woman on the tape. It was like sitting down with a friend and getting a crash football course. I enjoy it and my son is really proud of me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as Cheesy as I Expected, October 25, 2003

I expected this to be real cheesy, given the title. Unfortunately there are few football-101 book for men or the general population (hint! hint!). My son wanted to learn the game and this was the best we could find at the moment. The part about comparing "first down" with "first store" when shopping at the mall had to be the worst. Okay, it was one minute of agony. Otherwise, there was a great deal of information covered in a mere half-hour. Quite impressive. My son learned all that was good to know (although I knew all of the information, dads "know nothing"). So, skip the cheesy parts, but this is good 101-level stuff.

My husband just gave me this video for our anniversary. It is entertaining and educational. Hated football before this. Now I correct my spouse on certain "calls". Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, interesting and funny, August 13, 2007
By
This review is from: Football: A Woman's Guide [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video was great for learning about the game of football and fun to watch even if you already know about playing football and the rules of the game. A football fan who knows lots about the game and a male teenager who knew almost nothing about the game both watched it found it very well done and interesting and funny. We watched several videos about the game of football and voted this one the best of all of them.
