This review is from: Footeprints: Chamber Music of Arthur Foote (Audio CD)
This music that is rarely heard comes to life on this recording. Call me bias, but this ensemble is tight all around. There is not a flaw on this album. These player are so strong and well matched, in general. The music they make on this c.d. is technically challenging and musically challenging. These players handle all of the nuances and challenges these pieces have to offer.Though Foote is an American composer, you can hear the influences of German Romanticism in his pieces. They are thick in texture, the quartet more than the trio. The quartet also lends some similarities to Vaughn-Williams, so Foote's English roots are also strongly present. These pieces are well interpreted and played passionatly by all members of the group. The piano is strong as are the strings. The second movement of the trio is exciting while the third is thought provoking. This music itself deserves to be listened to, as do the players. I am not good at articulating the worth of this album, but I hope that people find it worth getting and enjoying. If you've never heard Arthur Foote this c.d is a good way to acquaint yourself.
