4.0 out of 5 stars Maynard Shows his stuff....again, November 16, 2000

Well, the Boss has reinvented himself again. This is more standard type pieces than his old showtune stuff, and he again shows off his range, but also his soloing ability more so than in his older albums.

The Big Bop Nouveau group again shows why they're part of the elite. Staggering Solos and duets pepper this album. For you straight-ahead jazz types that before would steer away from Maynard, give this one a try. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a new appreciation for him. I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of good stuff!, September 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Footpath Cafe (Audio CD)
I bought this CD to replace my worn out tape copy of "Cruisin' for a Bluesin'" on the out-of-print Big Bop Nouveau album (released on now-defunct Intima records). I have literally been searching for this chart for at least the last year. That sax section soli in the middle kicks! Anyway, I was pleased that some of the other charts on the CD are even better, including "Break the Ice" and "Hit and Run". It seems to be a very saxocentric album, which is OK by me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic Maynard, May 30, 2003
By A Customer

I'm a young trombonist that is hooked on Maynard's big band. Even though he may have been past his prime in this recording, it is vintage screaming that only he can pull off. The sax solis are extremely tight and powerful, along with the entire Big Bop Nouveau Band. This is a must have if you're a Maynard fan or just a music fan in general.
