Wide tolerances, but what do you expect for the $$?,

3.5 stars. It came with a cracked handle (not from Amazon) which I repaired rather than fool with a return/exchange (-1 star). It took a lot of time to flatten the sole until I got access to a belt sander (-0.5 star). The chip breaker needed to be flattened to fit the iron, but frog fit was good, and the mouth was square. The frog adjustment knob has moderate backlash, but is a minor annoyance. After all the tuning, the plane produces thin fluffy shavings without chatter. If I had to do it all over again, I'd find a vintage Stanley/Bailey, but I'm satisfied with the end product. The 3.5 stars rating is a function of tool quality and economy.

Whoever made this junk surly lacks any workmanship and ought to be out of business for good. Again, you get what you pay for but i got nothing with this thing. I ended up saving and buying a vintage Stanley that is at least a 100 years old and it can make this plane look like a useless block of cheap steel. I through it away but saved the knob I must admit. Don't buy it.

Bought this plane from Sears while it was on sale. I find this plane needs a lot of work to get it into a usable state. The shoe is not flat, after use about more than 10 pieces of 80/120 grit sand paper and many hours of time, it is still not flat, not even the area around the mouth. The blade needs good amount of work flatten to back and sharpened. but that could be normal at this price. Blade chatters, the frog needs to be flattened too. The sides are not true either. So tired to deal with this plane, really regret this purchase. Then I bought the WoodRiver V3 jack plane, which is much better a deal - it just works. |
