Book Description

December 3, 2002
"Footprints in Courage: A Bataan Death March Surivor’s Story" tells the inspiring tale of Army Air Corpsman Alf Larson who endured the infamous Bataan Death March in World War II and then faced more than four years as a Japanese prisoner of war. "We were hot, thirsty, sick and exhausted to the point you couldn’t talk, couldn’t see, didn’t care. After a while everything just went blank in my mind; we were hardly conscious.

"For six days I just put one foot in front of the other over and over and over again," Larson says of the agonizing trek that the world now calls the Bataan Death March and its 3,000 survivors (from an original 7,500 U.S. servicemen) simply call "the hike."

5.0 out of 5 stars Footprints of Courage, July 15, 2011
By
Nancy Sabin (SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Footprints in Courage (Paperback)
This book provides amazing insights about a family's heartache, pain and loss when their beloved child, brother and grandson went missing...later found murdered. The author, Jan Jenkins, provides poignant memories of her son, Chris Jenkins, giving the reader insight about the essence of what Chris's incredible "gifts" have been to this world. By sharing the unending steps Jan's family took as they desperately searched for their son, the reader learns invaluable information about finding a missing loved one. Ultimately, the shock in not having the full support of law enforcement and public safety officials spurred this family on to to take extreme measures to find their son. Eventually, the Jenkins gained a small measure of justice for Chris.

The book gave a real look at the torture and hardships these prisoners of war were forced to endure.
