Pat Martino is one of the great jazz guitarist and can be compared with Kenny Barron, Barney Kessel, Jim Hall and Grant Green (my favorites. A national treasure, for sure.
This album is just one of my favorite albums...period!
It flows beautifully from start to finish and has a wonderfully consistent atmosphere.
I doubt that this was intended, as jazz LP's of this period were catch all as catch can type of affairs, but for me this just transcends easy labels.
Everyone plays exquisitely, almost poetically (listen to How Insensitive), Pat's playing of course being central, but everyone performs beautifully.
It is an ensemble recording above all else. Pat just sails above all of it with a genius that has rarely been equaled.
