A thrilling and informative story, August 31, 2010
This review is from: Footprints in the Ash, a Pompeii Mystery (Paperback)
I did not put the book down until I was through. It is an exiting story about a detective investigation in our days that is linked with happenings two thousand years ago. Both stories fix you to the end and the chronology of the volcano eruption is obviously well studied and artfully woven into the plot. This is interesting especially when you experience similar events today like in case of Eyjafjallajokull eruption earlier this year. Also the Italian flair is alive and you can almost taste the food and smell the surrounding. I got a desire to travel to Pompeii. A very enjoyable reading.

Memorable Footprints, August 14, 2009
This review is from: Footprints in the Ash, a Pompeii Mystery (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book. It's a story within a story, which begins with the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD and moves to a baffling murder on an archeological dig in present day Pompeii. As a mystery thriller it's first-rate: credible characters, swift tight narrative, plenty of plot twists, even a nice little romance. But what distinguishes the book and sets it well apart from a run-of-the mill thriller is the clear and authoritative account of what makes a volcano erupt and what it's like to be caught up in such a terrifying event. A real page-turner.

What a wonderful setting. The author has obviously done careful and extensive research regarding the eruption of Vesuvius. Makes the reader feel he is fleeing the flowing lava right along with the characters!
