From Russia with love., October 26, 2004
This review is from: In the Footsteps of the Russian Snowman: A Record of Investigation (Paperback)
When I first picked up the "Russian Snowman", I honestly expected a bone-dry book full of wall-to-wall statistics and obscure scientific terminology I would never understand. Imagine my delight, then, when I found this richly illustrated collection of witnessed reports and historical lore on the "Russian Bigfoot" to be a wonderful read for an ordinary person like me. It is conveniently divided into five sections for the different parts of a vast country, and they are all well documented by Igor Bourtsev and other researching contributors. Dimitri Bayanov has done an extraordinary job in bringing the study and history of Russian Bigfoot research to America.
I consider the "Russian Snowman" a must-read for anyone who is interested in the study of our own Bigfoot counterparts in North America. There is a certainly a clear connection between our creatures and theirs. It's a rich, fascinating book, and is so well written that even a total skeptic or "nonbeliever" will have to at least give some thought to the possible existence of these elusive creatures on the Asian mainland.
I recommend the "Russian Snowman" without reservation. And from what I gather, the Russian culture seems more tolerant of the existence of such creatures than we are, and for that, at least, Russia gets a pat on the back!

A first class eye-opener !!!!!!, November 7, 2006
This review is from: In the Footsteps of the Russian Snowman: A Record of Investigation (Paperback)
I picked this book up at the Forten Times 'Un-Convention' in 1998. I've been hooked ever since. I guess I read the book at least once every two years, in fact when I get home next month it's on my list to pick up again.
The book looks at Russian study into their own Bigfoot/ Sasquatch which is generally referred to as 'The Snowman' within scientific circles. The 'Snowmen' are reported from all across the old Soviet empire. The book discusses sightings from across the different regions and studies that have been made into them. It seems that there could be a number of different types of 'Snowmen' ranging from very human-like beings to those that are much more apelike.
That the Russian Scientific Community and general population have taken the sightings/ stories seriously and away from the tabloid frenzy that they are so often portrayed as in the West is testament to a wiser view of the world around them. While the West by and large relegates the study of Bigfoot to folklore and more unkindly hoaxing, some Russian scientists see the Snowmen as neither supernatural, beings from outer space or merely large bipedal apes, but rather as what they term 'super-animals': this may explain why they are so hard to track and why they have remained largely unknown.
This was a major book find for me. I know it's generally only available second-hand now at very expensive prices, but it's well worth the buy if you can't pick it up from a local library. We hear comparitively so much about bigfoot like creatures from North America that this is an invaluable insight into what truly is a world-wide phenomena.

The Russian Snowman and his hunters: Reports from the east., November 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: In the Footsteps of the Russian Snowman: A Record of Investigation (Paperback)
I've read this book like a thriller. I learned that there are such strange creatures like bigfoot and his relatives also in Russia. The native bigfoot hunters are no less successfull as their american colleagues. Read this book and when you are in Russia do not drive to Moscow or St. Petersburg. Go into the russian forests to look for the russian bigfoot there! - But be careful: Perhaps these bigfoots are only former soviet communists, now living in the forest! Nevertheless, read this book!
