I guess that's ok if you're into that sort of thing, but if you're looking for the old "Cat" you won't find him here.

Recently, I have been buying his newer cd's, Footsteps included, and am finding a whole new world of music.

It's natural for a compilation like this one to be a bit all over the map. So here there are highs and lows. But the highs make this well worth having.

Yusuf's reworking of old material in several songs is interesting, but please know that this is Yusuf Islam covering Cat Stevens, not Cat Stevens himself. We all change and grow; please listen for the changed man.

That said, my favorite cuts here are all new. Yusuf's modernizations of traditional material are always fresh and his recording of the Adhan, the call to prayer is simply haunting. But the song that stays with me most is "God is the Light," which, to my ears, combines the tuneful beauty of old material with the humble spirituality of the new.

Note: the booklet accompanying the CD is one of the nicest and most informative I've ever seen. It adds a whole new dimension to the music.

Despite this album not having the complete flavor of the "old cat," this album has an amazing sound and transports you to another world and time. After hearing Another Cup I wondered if there were any more albums that had been put out before and was pleased to find that he had. The songs I liked best in the newest album were more rooted in the foundations of the arab culture and I was so excited to hear this album had even more to offer in that area.

As a muslimah, I embrace these works with Joy. I also grew up on the era of Cat Stevens and even sang some of his classics such as "Morning has Broken" In our high school chorale ensemble and never realized I would listen to him again in the future with a changed outlook. If you are looking for the old songs you will find them here again with a new twist and new approach. They are a good choice for a contemporary muslim looking for venue in which to listen to something permissible as this is a collection of works and nausheeds from his early years in Islam where he used the permitted Percussive instruments and methods often only allowed in the more conservative circles. Listen and appreciate, but remember This is Yusuf, judge it for its merits and not as a comparison to the works of the "Cat"
Shukran again brother Yusuf.

I have been a fan of Cat Stevens since the seventies but never really got into his music back then. Recently, I have been buying his newer cd's, Footsteps included, and am finding a whole new world of music. Footsteps is Yusuf's music of Islam, in various shapes and melodies, and without his traditional guitar backing him up. Recently beginning to really explore Islam myself, I found this cd absolutely riviting and spiritual. If you could compare this with any album, Paul Simon's 'Graceland' comes to mind. Some of these songs are in Arabic, and possibly Zulu, which only adds to the magic of this collection. I love the fifth song, Tala'al Badru Alayana which has some verses in English. A very beautiful and compelling song. 'God Is Light' and 'A Is for Allah' are also great songs. And Yusuf does cover newer versions of 'Wild World' and 'Peace Train' which are interesting takes on some old material. The Adhan (Call to Prayer) is wonderfully done by Yusuf as well. It has an African American feel to it, so not your tradional Cat Stevens music. This is a great collection of music from the master himself. I fell in love with the it the first time I heard it. This clocks in at just over 57 minutes, and is worth your ear, if not your heart.

Not everyone will agree with my rating. If you are looking for classic Cat Stevens, this is not it. But as a new Muslim, it is so peaceful and meaningful, that this is actually my second copy. The first one is nearly worn out.

Not for the casual Cat Stevens/Yusufg Islum fan.....a lot of Muslim influence.
His voice is still Cat Stevens but be ready to meditate. Since I'm a big fan of his I like the variety and the other side of his music.
