Biography

DAVID CROWDER*BAND, the Dove Award-winning six-piece, crafts compelling, inimitably progressive electronic rock. Think Radiohead meets Linkin Park. Compare that description with the fact that some even call them a worship band. The interesting thing is that you wouldn’t know it at all by listening to the band’s ambient and ethereal forthcoming record CHURCH MUSIC but CROWDER wants to be upfront… Read more in Amazon's David Crowder*Band Store

About the Artist

Named among the "most thoughtful, progressive and exciting acts in contemporary Christian music" by The New York Times, the popular yet unconventional David Crowder*Band released their latest GRAMMY ® nominated album Church Music in 2009 fall which debuted at No. 1 on the Christian retail chart scanning over 35,000 units. This gave David Crowder*Band their largest street week to date ranking in at No. 11 on the Billboard Top 200. David Crowder*Band's latest music video for "SMS (Shine)" nabbed coverage on NBC's The Today Show, Fox & Friends, USA Today, Billboard and Paste Magazine online as well as a GMA Dove Award win for "Short Form Video of the Year." The video was also recognized at the LA Film Festival in 2011. Along with the group's 9 GMA Dove Awards and 22 nominations, the band was the first Christian artist to be named MSN.com's Artist of the Year in 2006. The band is part of the Passion Movement, participating in university student gatherings in the US and around the world. The group's leader David Crowder is further an acclaimed author, having penned two books, including his acclaimed, highly personal, Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, But Nobody Wants to Die: Or (The Eschatology of Bluegrass). The band recently announced that they are disbanding after the fall 2011 tour, and is currently working on their final album to be released in January 2012.

Iv'e pretty much listened to David Crowder Band since they started out, and it is about time they come out with a Christmas album. When I heard they were on their last tour as a band I almost cried (I have not yet seen them live as I lived in Spain until recently, thankfully I get to see them next sunday).
All the songs have a Christ centered message that just makes me want to worship God for his awesomeness. The musical quality is always top-notch. I love how they experiment with different sounds and instruments. I would say that they are the most creative band I listen to (both Christian and secular).
I especially loved Carol of the Bells. It is such a great song to start with, and I think that DCB did well making it their own.

Thank you for another amazing album.

A long-time David Crowder fan, I've always loved his fun renditions of songs and his implementation of alternative instruments. I was incredibly excited for this album (and it shipped to me in one day, despite only paying for standard shipping!) and let me tell you - not disappointed at all.

A few highlights...

The album opens with Joy to the World, and a great rendition of it at that. The musical composition of the song is wonderful - it really is a joyous song. Crowder sticks to the original tunes of the songs, but the instrumental backgrounds are of the likes I have never heard from any other artist or Christmas album.

Angels We Have Heard on High has the Crowder bluegrass feel, much like you'd recognize from "I Saw the Light" off of A Collision (or 3+4=7). Such a fun rendition of a song normally done over and over by different artists that all sound more or less the same.

O Holy Night has the more traditional feel to it, but when I hear it and close my eyes, all I can feel is Christmas. It has a great buildup, too, and ends in a culmination of a very powerful, "O night divine; O night, o night divine!"

Silent Night is wonderful. The majority of the song is the live audience singing while Crowder leads instrumentally. It's soft, beautiful, and mysterious, echoing the awe and wonder of the birth of Christ.

Finally, Carol of the Bells is absolutely PHENOMENAL. Crowder talks for a minute or so in the beginning, and then the song breaks into an alternative, rock, instrument-only rendition of this classic. I can't explain it in words - I only advise you listen to a preview. This song alone is probably worth purchasing the entire album (although, I'd probably say that for each song on the record).

When I hear artists redoing other songs, I often think, "I hope you're doing it different or better, otherwise, you're probably wasting your time." I can with full confidence say that DCB has done Christmas classics both different and better than ever before.

This album is a MUST!
