I have never really been a big fan of Hatebreed, mainly due to the fact that they completely lack creativity or originality. I have heard more or less every album they have released since their major label debut Satisfaction Is The Death Of Desire. Every album sounds almost identical to the previous with the band never evolving and the only thing that has changed over time was the quality of the production. That said I come at 'For The Lions' open minded as this has some of my favorite songs by some of the biggest names of the Metal universe.

KEY: Song Title - Original Band/Album/Release Date - Track Length - My Rating - My Review

Ghosts Of War - Slayer/South of Heaven/1988 - 4:00 - 5 out of 5 - The opening track starts sounding almost identical to the original production then explodes into current Hatebreed production value. All in all this is a great cover of a classic Metal song and I was blown away by the roaring guitar riffs and the nearly identical soloing/breakaway sections. Furthermore Jasta's vocal style fits extremely well into a Slayer song, which isn't surprising as Tom Araya uses a similar style of simple yells. Overall a great start to an album I was skeptical about.

Suicidal Maniac - Suicidal Tendencies/Join the Army/1987 - 3:06 - 4 out of 5 - The second track like the first is a nearly identical cover except the obvious improved production over the original. The band is in fine form here on a song that is far more straight forward Thrash with catchy vocals and an excellent solo towards the end. Again Jasta does his best to sound similiar to the original vocalist and even puts down some deeper then he's used to vocals.

This CD is beyond awesome. Jasta and Hatebreed deliver as usual. The cover tunes are done well and do justice to the originals. Because of this album, I am discovering some "new" bands and tunes.

I have never heard so many furious and perfect cover in one place before this cd.hatebreed definetly gave respect to every song/band covered they cover so many great bands and songs it's hard to pick favorites.they gave 110% effort to these tunes I've been a fan since preseverance cd but i never realised the tallent these guy's never showed in their original songs yet till this cd.they seam to have skills to spare shown in obituary's i'm in pain the drums pound, slayer's ghosts of war& madball's set it off.this band is likely to be able to play just about any heavy style of music and the rarer tracks from judge, merauder,DRI,cromags and black flag wow buy they forgot their cover of sick of it all's rat pack they recorded several years ago for a SOIA tribute cd

slayer, madball, misfits, cro-mags, seputura Agnostic Front, obituary, dri, sick of it all, meruader, black flag, suicidal T. judge, metallica and sheer terror (only on the rarest version) these are some of the best of their breed in music each and hatebreed covers them like they wrote them perfectly!!some complain they didn't put their own stamp on them or change them up-why they told everyone listening they can play these song as well as the writers did. From thrash-punk- speed metal-new york /hardcore to new school metal core-death metal -old school to the new school, they owned these tracks making these band say Wow these guys have talent and know it.this cd was widely publicized as a cover cd but some meat heads thought this might be a new cd or a best of - well this is much better! listen to it you'll believe it,or your missing out huge!

A Kid's Review on May 5, 2009

i have never seen a cover cd this full of great songs by hugly influencial bands cro-mags,obituary,sepultura,mad ball judge, Agnostic front, suicidal tendencies and slayer 18 total, wow.these cove are done to the max every one is excellent they cut no corners, just took alot of time but it's well worth it.they took so many types of heavy music and paid tribute to all with very much respect and care to the original.I'd give this a 10 if it could.these guys even cover some rarer stuff negative approach, merauder, judge&DRI.my hats off to them they recorded this songs so close to the orinigals but in hatebreed style.I got my cd a few days ago and it's been in the cd player ever since.don't wait to hear it some where else or a sale run and get it now it's worth more than you'll pay.

Yeah... these are good songs. But when I hear a cover album... I want it to sound like the band (Hatebreed) putting their own spin on the songs... My gripe is that from Slayer to MadBall to Merauder to the Judge cover, Jamey Jasta tries to mimic the original vocal style of that song and that band. I didn't like that. To make matters worse I thought that the production on each song sounded different. I think you can pass on this one. Sorry.

First off I'm a huge Hatebreed fan so honestley when I first put in the CD I hated it but that opinion changed fast. They reworked these songs their way (for the most part) and not just playing somebody elses song but making it their own. Not every song is good but most of them are awesome. I would tell any real Hatebreed fan to buy this (and get the best buy version the live tracks are perfectly recorded and performed)
