For My People is a very interesting and concise history of black theology from the perspective of one of it's founders, James Cone. Cone's theology has always tried to keep together the 'wings' of the civil rights movement, of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcom X. Cone wanted to keep the Christianity of King but he also believed in black liberation. So, black theology is an interesting welding of these two methods and beliefs.

This book looks back to the civil rights era and includes a theological interpretation of the history of the black liberation movement in the black church. Cone gives insider scoop into their dealings with white churches and other bodies, into the formation of the NCBC and how that movement evolved over the next twenty years (the book was written in 1984 and closes there).

The last part of the book attempts to look toward the future of churches involved with black liberation theology. It tackles issues of sexism and the role of women, their affiliations with other liberation theologies and Marxism and their relation to Third World theologies across the.

An interesting look at the history of black theology. I would recommend this if you have an interest in learning about this topic more fully. This would be a great place to start.
