Book Description

December 1, 1999
Was the transition from hunting and gathering to a life of ploughing and herding sudden, or the result of gradual changes? Was farming forced on the local population by incomers or was it a logical progression? Research into the migration of agriculture into Jutland is particularly valuable since Southern Scandinavia was one of the last places in Europe to pass from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic. Furthermore, stone tools and waste from their production are the most common artefacts found at sites from the Danish Stone Age. This book presents an analysis of the stone tools from several well-known sites, and, using this data, explores current theories about how and why prehistoric Danish populations adopted a domestic way of life.
