5.0 out of 5 stars Nature's Bounty, May 16, 2002

This review is from: Foraging New England: Finding, Identifying, and Preparing Edible Wild Foods and Medicinal Plants from Maine to Connecticut (Paperback)
Tom Seymour, acclaimed as a naturalist from the State of Maine, has written a fascinating survey of nature's bounty. This book is highly recommended to readers with an interest in ecology and the world of nature. The author supplies much hard to find information concerning nature's many hidden treasures: edible plants, medicinal plants, and the like. The book features superb color plates, cross-referencing, and a writing style that says "keep reading...."

This review is from: Foraging New England: Finding, Identifying, and Preparing Edible Wild Foods and Medicinal Plants from Maine to Connecticut (Paperback)
Tom Seymour has created a book perfect for the novice New England forager and budding naturalist. I got tired of pulling weeds from my yard and garden and wondered if they actually served a purpose. Shortly after purchasing this book I was enjoying garden 'weeds' at the table with my family. So many of them really are better tasting (and more nutritious) than commercially cultivated plants that we're offered in the produce aisle at the market. Tom's progression from the edible to the beneficial properties of the plants he discusses led me to harvesting and storing many plants for future use. I now have a farmer's market business selling herbal teas and body products made from native plants and medicinal herbs. Thanks, Tom, for awakening the naturalist within me!

This book is very well written and has information that is relevant to my interests. The pictures are well done and really aid in identification of the plants. I feel confident in my abilities to id the plants in the book based on the info provided therein. He includes lookalike plants and how to distinguish the real thing from them.

Wicked good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, great seller, June 5, 2009
This review is from: Foraging New England: Finding, Identifying, and Preparing Edible Wild Foods and Medicinal Plants from Maine to Connecticut (Paperback)
Really love this book! Specific to the area, making it easier to learn about plants in New England instead of flipping through pages and pages of plants that are not found in my region. Definitely recommended. It arrived quickly!

Having grown up in New York State and going to Boy Scout camp in the summers. I was in Maine many time and i tried to think of the foods we had collected from the forests there and wondered if per chance they had the same things growing in the Most Eastern states. I found the two books that I had ordered did indeed carry most of the things we found in New York. Well worth the money spent. Articwolf.
