1.0 out of 5 stars Savvy investor?????
It is exactly what you would expect from a magazine. The information provided was basic investing 101 style material. It is more akin to the type of information you would get in a pamphlet rather than a true academic work. If you watch CNBC for 20 minutes per day you will be better informed than you will after reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE, February 21, 1999

This book is a must have for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of the financial markets and how to invest in them. It's written in an engaging style that draws the reader in as it demystifies key investment concepts, strategies, jargon, and products. The author's knowledge is encyclopedic, and his presentation of the material is even-handed, informing the reader of the pros and cons of different investment approaches. I haven't found any other book that covers as broad a range of topics as this one (and I've looked hard.) Overall, a very useful tool and a pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Introduction to the Stock Market, February 15, 2003

This was my first book on investing, three years ago. It starts with the assumption that you know nothing, but it treats you like an educated, intelligent person. The pace goes quickly, and by the end of the book you know everything you need to know to be an intelligent investor.
I have recommended this book to several friends who wanted a good investing primer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book.....a little 'boring'......, June 20, 2000
This review is from: Forbes Guide to the Markets: Becoming a Savvy Investor (Paperback)
This is a pretty good book...it seems to me it covers ground a little too fast, and dosen't give enough examples. If you are a quick learner, this is a good book for you. To me, after I got to the part on Mutual Funds I started getting bored....I just wish it was a little more fun to read...but again, A good book to read and learn about the stock market.

Groz's book is just the kind of investment book that has been needed to fill the gap between market kitch and high-brow professional narrative. It leaves the reader feeling well informed but piques her curiousity -- and prepares her for an even deeper understanding of the markets and investing. It is clear that this was Groz's intention. A great book for journeyman investors seeking to negotiate markets and market-speak on a daily basis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broad overview for new investors, February 23, 2010
By
Jimmy P. Chacko (NY, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book provides a solid foundation on financial markets and how they work briefly touches on their history evolution. It's a good starting point for a novice but can be rather dry text book reading. Groz doesn't advocate a particular investment approach, and only briefly touches on some basic financial calculations toward the end, so if you're looking for a grand theory of market behavior or some serious number crunching this is not the book for you. Groz does a nice job of presenting an overview of markets and explaining some financial jargon used in the press. This would be a great gift for anyone graduating college who suddenly finds themselves in need of some guidance when it comes to their 401K.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Investing, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Forbes Guide to the Markets: Becoming a Savvy Investor (Paperback)
After reading many books on investing, this is the first I've found that offers keen insights to beginners and advanced investors. I would have no problem recommending this book to any of my Wall Street friends--or to my parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bible for Financial Literacy, February 25, 2011
By

In the aftermath of the great financial crisis, there has never been a greater need for Fin Lit, i.e., Financial Literacy. Having read a great many books on the markets, I can think of no better place to start than Groz's book. The remarkable thing is how many intriguing insights there are for experienced investors. Not surprising, as Groz is a highly regarded expert whose understanding of risk has been recognized by the best of the financial press (Joe Nocera of the New York Times, for one). He is also a true innovator and brings his inventive gifts to his writing. All in all, a tour de force!

5.0 out of 5 stars I made money already, February 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Forbes Guide to the Markets: Becoming a Savvy Investor (Paperback)
Thanks--this is an incredibly well written and clear guide. Based on some of Groz' theories, I sold two stocks last week and moved the money into two others I already owned. The market has been good since then, but the two I sold have gone down and the two I kept have gone up. Great book.
