Julianne falls for a boy she meets at a party at the beginning of the summer. He gives her his phone number, but without realizing it she drops it in the sand. Fortunately, they bump into each other again and the sparks fly.
Then she discovers he's the son of the family who has moved next door and is trying to force her family out of their beach home -- as well as destroy the beach with their monster house in the process. Her sister declares that Remi is off limits and part of Julianne agrees. However, she sees him everyday at her great summer job. She's found the perfect guy who gets her and she's not about to let him go. So they sneak around until they get caught. How can Julianne decide between her family and the boy she loves? Hailey Abbott writes the perfect summer novel filled with love, angst, and drama. Reviewed by: Jennifer Rummel

Good for a light read,
This review is from: Forbidden Boy (Paperback)
It was nothing spectacular. The prose were, though not painful, fairly basic. The plot was less than riveting, and the characterization minimal.
The only thing that really annoyed me though, was how perfectly everything worked out. Even when there was conflict it was either easily solved, or so stupid I had the urge to bang the character's head against the wall. And as for the characterization, most of them can pretty much be taken at face value. Not a lot of depth, but then again, books like this do not call for much. There were no insecurities, everyone was stunningly attractive, and the characters clicked right away, no sexual tension and very few complications. Julianne, the heroine, often gushes about this or that, becoming particularly cheesy when it comes to Remi, her love interest. I'm not saying it's a horrible book. It's actually very fitting for its genre, and I can easily see it in the hands of many teens. As long as you're looking for a light, feel-good romance that does not require a lot of critical thinking, this book is perfect. All in all, it was okay, but if you're in search of something probable, thought provoking, or with depth, then this is not the book for you.

I loved this book. I literally took this book to the beach. I recommend this book to those who want a light, noncomplicated and fun read filled with hot and SMART guys/girls that love architecture and art as well as some eco-friendly stuff. This book only made me want to know more about the characters and have them keep talking in their funny sarcastic manner(Julianne, the main character, and I have a lot incommon which I never found in any book I ever read).
I never read this genre, and being a college graduate I needed something light. I judged the book by the name and cover (yes i judged the book by it's cover) it looked like a Gossip Girl/90210/Previliged but I was wrong. Abbott writes a pretty teen/real life story that's relatable, has substance, is fun, happy and sad as well as just the good old smiling and tearing up here and there book. The book has a minor setback. Abbott is not very clear with ages/schools/physical details. Some sentences you have to reread because you're not sure why the person is talking when clearly the paragraph was about someone else. Apart from the writing being a little amateur and sometimes lacks more details where you want more, the book is really easy and light. P.S. I didn't research the author's age or bio so I am only judging the writing from my standpoint.

I'm in my 20's, and needed to buy a book for a 13-year-old, and got this one. I was bored so decided to read it, and WOW! It really took me back to the summer when I was 17. The writing is fantastic, and this makes me want to read all of the books by this author. The 13-year-old I gave it to loved it as well, possibly as much as me!

This book is STRICTLY 4 stars. It's a very quick read because the story line moves so fast. It took me 5 minutes of reading (and I was talking to my brother for half of that) for Julianne to go to this party and meet Remi. Right after she meets him, like 5 minutes after in the book, they're kissing on the beach. It makes absolutely NO sense. As for the author, weak. She makes it seem as if it is totally normal and inexpensive to live in a beach house in Southern California. And like there is parties every night as a teenager. And like all sisters are best friends. I don't know anyone who is so close to their sisters that their sisters (that are a couple years apart) would set up dates for each other and talk about their dates with each other and have never been in a fight. Even two of my best friends who are twins don't get along that well. I sure don't with my sister. I am usually generous when I write a review. I usually talk about the good things in a story and give 5 stars. That's how you know this is not a great book. Only 4 stars and I was tempted to just put one. Anyways, here's how the story went in my perspective:
Julianne and her sister Chloe are best friends. Chloe takes Julianne to a party and tries to set her up. Julianne meets a hot guy (isn't there one in every story?) and hits it off right away. 5 mins later their kissing. The next day Julianne finds Remi outside her beachfront home surfing. This is where I got creeped out and she didn't. They hit it off again and Remi says he gotta go to dinner and he walks into the Moores house. The Moores are building a gym on the beach and apparently ruining it. Julianne over reacts and suddenly hates Remi who is totally clueless. They get back together even though it's only been like, 3 days. Chloe (Julianne's sister) finds out. Chloe gets mad. They break up again. Chloe forgives Julianne. They get back together. Ending sucks. I DO NOT WHATSOEVER RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. NOT SUITED FOR ALL AGES. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 0-185. WILL CAUSE SERIOUS BAD BOOK SYNDROME. IF YOU SEE SIGNS OF BAD BOOK SYNDROME, CONSULT GOOD BOOK IMMEDIATELY. SOME RECOMMENDED TITLES: NIGHT WORLD BY LG SMITH; DARK VISIONS BY LG SMITH; REDEEMER BY HEATHER KILLOUGH-WALDEN; FOREVER NEVERLAND BY HEATHER KILLOUGH-WALDEN; CITY OF BONES BY CASSANDRA CLARE. THESE ARE KWOWN CURES FOR BAD BOOK SYNDROME.

This book is about a girl (Julianna) who goes to a party and meets the guy (Remi) of her dreams. It takes less than 10 page turns (all in one single hour) for the girl and guy to kiss. And the next morning, she's all like "Remi this" and "Remi that". I mean seriously, this girl is soooooo in love with him in a single day it actually makes me sick. And some other things:
1. The prose itself is less creative than that of a science textbook. 2. Bad jokes are splattered EVERYWHERE. 3. You're totally left out of things. You have no idea of what's happening sometimes and it's not revealed in a mysterious way. It's just not explained till the next chapter. 4. The characters are boring. 5. The tension between Julianna and Remi is never there. They're just somehow not awkward at ALL. 6. Everything is predictable. 7. The author never stays on the same name. It's Jules, or Julianna. And sometimes it comes across as AUTHOR LAZINESS. 8. Niether character has something that will make a relationship difficult. They're both sexy and funny (at least, that's what the author says; the jokes are even worse than those of Fred [the annoying YouTube kid]) and junk like that, which is impossible. I must, however give the author SOME credit: She got it past the publisher, so SOMEBODY was obviously getting SOMETHING under the table from the author.

Hysterical,

I was wandering around in a Barnes and Noble waiting for a friend so I picked up this "trashy" novel. When I got to the second chapter I went to the counter and bought it! Can you imagine!? A 56 year old woman buying "Forbidden Boy." The writing is hysterical and winning. I can't wait to pick up Hailey Abbott's other releases!

I bought this for my daughter, an avid Hailey Abbott fan, and she absolutely loves it. She says this is, by far, the best Hailey Abbott book ever! Very much looking forward to the next one.
