Book Description

Harlequin Intrigue November 1, 2005

He'd fallen into enemy hands. Now, battle-scarred bounty hunter Bryce Martin and his comrades were imprisoned in dungeonlike torture chambers on wind whipped Devil's Fork Island. He was at the mercy of the barbaric militia members who'd been breaching homeland security, yet Bryce somehow forged a human connection with a mysterious servant girl. In the dark shadows of the night, gentle-hearted Anastasiya Belov saw beyond his beastly appearance to the tender man inside. Spurred by their desperate situation, a forbidden attraction ignited. Bryce's beautiful keeper was the key to escaping, but she led a double life in a dangerous game of survival. Could Bryce outsmart his foes...without sacrificing his most precious ally?

5.0 out of 5 stars ROMANTIC TIMES BOOKClub says....., November 4, 2005
This review is from: Forbidden Captor (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the fourth installment of the Big Sky Bounty Hunters series, a mission gone wrong leaves bounty hunter Bryce Martin and his team the hostages of a mad militia leader. When he falls for servant Anastasiya Belov, he will do anything to keep her safe, but he knows his men and his mission come first. Julie Miller's FORBIDDEN CAPTOR (4 1/2*) is a roller coaster of suspense and tenderness with a gentle but steel-spined heroine and a scarred and courageous hero in a race against time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Forbidden Captor, February 26, 2007

This review is from: Forbidden Captor (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
When Tasiya Belov was blackmailed to save her father's life, she was taken to America where she would be a cook for a madman, and a spy and mistress for her blackmailer. But as a cook, she was ordered to feed a bunch of prisoners, one who scared her and captivated her heart.

A promising idea but a poorly written novel. At first, the story had a lot of similarities to "Beauty and the Beast" which has always been my favorite fairytale. Tasiya's love and devotion to her father reminded me of the Beauty's love for her father in the fairytale, and it helped that Tasiya was very beautiful and Bryce was very ugly. However, that's where the similarities to my favorite fairytale ended. The characters were very flat and rather stupid at times. I didn't like how the good guys were made to look perfect, and the bad guys had nothing good about them, it was childish in that sense. Tasiya was made to look like she was absolutely perfect, but her innocence and naivety were rather silly. Bryce was at times very manly, but at other times he was a cheesy lover boy. The characters were poorly developed. The plot itself was not even close to realistic. Personally, I don't like books that are overly realistic, but it's nice when the book has some reality to it. In here, bounty hunters were made to look like CIA agents. Also, the plot didn't have enough intrigue. Everything came too easy for the characters and there weren't enough setbacks. All in all, I think this novel was pretty boring, but I think that after like 10 years, the author should improve and be good at her craft. But for now, she needs lots, and lots of practice.
