Edgy and eye opening,
By Annie "Banana" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forbidden City (New Series #4) (Ahsahta Press New Series) (Paperback)
The dialect and insinuations about race and culture made in this book are pushing the limits to what most of us are use to. We read this in my creative writing class, and I felt that the class was really afraid to speak up about their true feelings because of its potentially charged material. There were several poems that I adored, and on the whole, this book of poetry is worth reading. It's overall easy to read and comprehend. I enjoyed it.

One of the most interesting books around,

As poet/scholar Campbell McGrath writes in support of this work, "Forbidden City is a book of complex and visceral virtues, where the implicit meets the explicit, and dialet becomes dialectical. Peggy Hamilton's poetry is alive, authrentic, and empowered, not to mention formally eventive and full of conviction." This book is immensely useful as a tool of enjoyment, education, and emotion. |
