Book Description

February 1, 1999

Jordan Willis, the Earl of Blackmore, has played with the heart of many a society belle—yet one stolen kiss impulsively planted on the soft, irresistible lips of the preacher's daughter proves his undoing. The prim and proper Emily Fairchild's innocent response sends desire surging through the notorious rake, and he can't forget her. Now, meeting Lady Emma Campbell, an outrageously flirtatious debutante, leaves the earl more shaken than ever—for the brazen beauty is an uncanny double of the sweet Emily!Emily cannot reveal the reason for her scandalous masquerade—not even to the earl whose heated embrace awakens a sizzling passion. Her very life depends on convincing society that she is Lady Campbell, yet no disguise can hide her dangerous attraction to the earl. But does "Cinderella' dare risk losing her handsome "prince" by revealing that she is just a country girl?

Review

"Powerful Romance." -- Rexanne Becnel

When Emily Fairchild first encounters the dashing Earl of Blackmore, she never dreams that the chance meeting would change her life forever. Yet as a rector's daughter, Emily knows she has no future with Jordan Blackmore. However, when Emily is trapped in a masquerade by her best friend's father, the playing field becomes more even. Emily becomes Lady Emma Campbell, a very eligible and acceptable debutante. And when "Emma" encounters Lord Blackmore, it is all she can do to keep up the charade, especially since he is determined to reveal the truth. The charade must continue in spite of her feelings for Blackmore. But will it ever end? Will she forever be destined to a forbidden love? The chemistry between Emily and Lord Blackmore is refreshing. They are well-matched, adding a dimension of both sexuality and humor. It's not often that we find such a sensible, strong female character. Emily not only has a firm backbone, but she is also full of fire. Amy Wilson -- Copyright © 1999 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

About the Author

At the tender age of twelve, Sabrina Jeffries decided she wanted to be a romance writer. It took her eighteen more years and a boring stint in graduate school before she sold her first book, but now her sexy and humorous historical romances routinely land on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists and have won several awards. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and son, where she writes full-time and is working on her next novel.

More About the Author

By the time Sabrina Jeffries was 18, she'd eaten chicken heads and jellyfish, been chased by a baby elephant, seen countless cobras and pythons, had the entire series of rabies shots, and visited rain forests and rubber plantations.
But that wasn't enough excitement for her; to escape her mundane life as a missionary's daughter, she read romance novels.

Now she writes romance novels, and her bestselling, award-winning tales of strong women and sexy, dangerous men have been translated all over the world. Although she now lives in North Carolina with her husband and son, her colorful life has taken her from Thailand to New Orleans and given her plenty of inspiration for more books.

5.0 out of 5 stars So THIS is how good a romance can be!, May 10, 2001
This review is from: The Forbidden Lord (Lord Trilogy, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I do not normally read romance novels, but I bought this one because Sabrina Jeffries was a speaker at a writer's conference in Oklahoma I attended, and I was sufficiently impressed with her talk on how to write sensual dialog that I decided to give her work a try. I was not disappointed. Her characters are clearly written and have clear motivations, her dialog is snappy, and her sensual scenes are, well, sensual. This book accomplished its mission -- it swept me up and made me regret each time I had to put it down. I probably would buy more of her books, based on how much I enjoyed this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Story Sizzles, July 10, 2000
This review is from: The Forbidden Lord (Lord Trilogy, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Forbidden Lord is a wonderfully written story. The characters are colorful and lively. I couldn't wait to read the last page.

Emily Fairchild a meek responsible rector's daughter whose life is dull and boring is about to get the jolt of her life. Her best friend, Sophie, attempts to elope but her father Lord Nesfield thwarts her plans and sends her off to Scotland while he hunts down the scoundrel Sophie wants to marry. Emily refuses to help Lord Nesfield find the villan who would dare to marry his daughter so Lord Nesfield blackmails Emily. Emily is forced to masquerade as Lady Emma to find the man who has led Sophie astray.

Jordan Willis, the Earl of Blackmore, is intrigued by Lady Emma. He suspects her of being a fraud and does everything in his power to force her to admit she's a fake. Jordan unwittingly falls in love with Emma/Emily as the plot twists and turns. The Forbidden Lord keeps the reader intoxicated until the very end of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A DEFINITE KEEPER!, July 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Forbidden Lord (Lord Trilogy, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a great book! I read The Pirate Lord and absolutely loved it. That book was a hard act to follow. I wasn't sure if Jordan had what it took for his own book since he was a boorish character in the first book. I am happy to say that I was wrong. This book was equally good and Jordan was hero material after all. He falls in love with Emily who is a rector's daughter. She is the epitome of innocence. He too is innocent in the way of love because it is a foreign emotion for a rake like himself. They fall in love despite her dark secret. What I really like about Sabrina Jeffries books is that she depicts both characters vulnerability when they fall in love for the very first time. Neither character is too scarred or has too much emotional baggage. It is just two people experiencing the ups and downs of falling in love.
