Robby the Robot talking and walking robot, manufactured in 1999 by Trendmasters, based on the robot from the 1950s science-fiction classic movie "Forbidden Planet." It's made of heavy plastic and stands about 11 inches tall, and comes with it's own wired remote control. Additional features for this highly collectible toy include flashing lights in its head, and a disintegrator pistol. Pushing a button on the wired remote control causes it to utter one of three phrases from the film, accompanied by flashing lights. Push another button and Robby walks and lights up. Operates with 3 "AA" batteries (included). Colorful box display packaging captures the look and feel of an era.

I think I got one of the last one of these robots! I hope more are available, because it's a faithful representation of the "Robby the Robot" that fascinated me in the movie, "Forbidden Planet." This movie was ahead of its time, and I think it is the best science fiction movie ever made. This is the Robby from that movie, and he actually walks while his "head dome" lights up. The remote control will allow you to hear Robby say a few phrases--and they sound just like the Robby in the movie. This robot toy should not be given to a child too young to properly operate and take care of it. I got it for the sheer nostalgia of it all. I had had a similar one as a kid back in the 1950s. So, this was a really good way to reconnect with the awe I felt as a child when watching that film. We still have a long way to develop a robot like the Robby that was envisioned half a century ago!
