Robby the Robot made his debut appearance in the classic 1956 movie Forbidden Planet and he has since become a pop culture icon. A super-obedient and strong robot, Robby was also a walking biochemical laboratory and even spoke 187 languages. This easy-to-assemble plastic model of Robby comes with concise, fully illustrated instructions. Fully constructed, Robby is posed with his pincher arms extended and measures 8.5 inches tall on a plastic space-rock stand. The set also comes with a detailed painting guide (paints and model glue are not included). Fans may be interested to know that Forbidden Planet was an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, and the movie's space explorers were the prototype for the Star Trek crew of the USS Enterprise. --Gail Hudson

The item for sale here is Polar Lights kit #5025, Original sculpt kit, premiere release, and this box was on the market in 1999. If someone is selling it here new, it is from unsold stock, and very rare. Nice kit, comes with paper instruction, all parts, and ready to be painted. It has some parts that are already chromed. As finished it is 8 1/2" in height. Robby is from the 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet". There is a newer version of this robot in a model kit released recently, but I prefer this classic style look and box and am glad you can still find it at Amazon.
