First contact via a giant blue pyramid appearing in rural Massachusetts. As a team of translators tries to discover how a race without electronics or modern technology has faster-than-light star travel one of the aliens claims he is a member of a persecuted religious minority and seeks sanctuary with the Catholic Church. More a novel of ideas and of the Catholic Church than of science.
