Book Description

Lori Adams puts a twist on paranormal romance with the first novel of The Soulkeepers, a series that blends ancient legends and new myths with an enchanting mix of thrills, humor, and high drama.

When Sophia St. James learns that she’ll be moving from Los Angeles to a podunk town somewhere in Connecticut for her senior year of high school, she isn’t expecting an otherworldly encounter. But there is more to Haven Hurst than meets the eye: it’s home to a family of Guardian Angels, and she is the only one who can see them in spirit form. Sophia soon realizes she wants to see much more of Michael, an irresistible yet volatile Guardian who seems drawn to her too.

As Michael battles his forbidden desire for the beautiful young newcomer, one of Hell’s most notorious Demon Knights arrives. Handsome and charismatic, Dante has come to claim the reincarnated soul of his lost lover trapped in Sophia. Cursed with the demon of Persuasion living inside him, Dante will use his seductive charms to lure Sophia into a dangerous game that ends with the kiss of death—unless Michael, who has captured Sophia’s heart, can now capture her soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guardian Angels with a Twist June 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book gave angels and paranormal romance a little bit of a new twist. There was your typical good versus evil, some YA smoldering romance, and a good paranormal mystery setup.

Sophia lost her mother a few years ago and since then her father has been toting them from place to place. His pastor profession lends itself to the moves, but Sophia senses that something more must be wrong with their situation. She’s forced to be the new girl in yet another school, but there are definitely strange happenings in this town. Haven Hurst is inhabited by a family that always seems to be on the scene of accidents and other near death experiences and Sophia is determined to get to the bottom of it. It also doesn’t hurt that Michael, one of these “guardians” and her have some sort of connection that leads her to see him when she shouldn’t be able to.

Michael is an angel who is tasked with protecting humans. They’re supposed to be immune to feelings like desire and jealousy, but ever since meeting Sophia, he feels both in a way he never imagined. Their YA romance is filled with obstacles, but it wasn’t the type that makes me aggravated and anxious. Instead, I was actually rooting for these two to overcome the odds and end up together. This book is clearly the setup for a series and it completely has me hooked. We get answers, but not enough! I want to know all the secrets that lurk behind the mythos we’ve just been introduced to. I’ll be adding the rest of these books to my “to-read” list ASAP!

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars May 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
** Originally written for Book Bliss book blog. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review**

Review: 3.5 stars
General: Overall this was an entertaining YA read. I liked the creative spin that was given to the Angels in this book because it helped to set them apart from many other angels - in any genre and age group. However, the plot itself lacked much spunk. It was still a good read and I enjoyed the book but aside from Sophia's "power" it didn't offer anything different idea wise than any YA - girl comes to town, girl meets hot, popular boy and so forth. It was a well written story with compelling characters and an intriguing backstory but not the most entertaining front story.

The world building and characters in this book were top notch. I loved the concept of actual guardian angels - not so much how we meet Michael because Sophia's "position" at the paper felt very contrite and disbelievable. The overall idea was original and something I really enjoyed. Especially the invisibility element and Sophia's actual power. Also, Sophia was a great character. She was strong, mostly level headed and passionate. I loved her wit as well. Michael was a strong "teen" and I liked it. I also liked that a lot of the time he really was just a teen and acted accordingly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Was not sure but ended up liking it July 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
When I started the book, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, But I ended up liking it.
There were a few things I didn’t really care for but that might just me. One was that the book switches from first person to third person view all the way through the book. I think it could have just stayed with either one or at least third person view.
Also the writing style was kind of weird for me and I can’t even put my finger on what it was really maybe it was that some things were just over described that bothered me the most.
Some of the dialog was a little childish even for a YA book.
I liked the characters they were each in their own way great, there were only a couple of times where Sophia got on my nerves, just because I think she should have doubted herself less.
I liked Michael and his Family, they are great characters and his Family brought a nice touch to the story.
Dante, well I hope he goes back and stay in hell, even when he was all nicey nice I dint care for him at all. He was just trying too hard.
Over all I enjoyed this book a lot and will move on to the second one and hope some question I have about Sophia are answered.
I give it 3 ½ ★

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good Angel and Demons series August 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first book in the SoulKeepers series and I was pleasantly surprise on how much I enjoyed this book. This book had a different take on Angels and Demons. The way Lori Adams wrote this book there was so much more to both sides and it made everything seem so real. I mean a demon royal court. Awesome.

Sophia has been moving around a lot. Her father is a pastor and her mother has recently died. This moved meant getting away from her abusive ex-boyfriend. When she makes it to the new town she immediately finds herself immersed in this new town. Making friends, trying to catch up in school, and taking the picture for the local newspaper. Sophia was a pretty strong human being. I loved that she was really curious about what was happening around her. She didn’t let Michael’s surliness stop her from finding out what he was hiding.

Michael is a being born of light. Michael and his family are a guardian angels that protects the souls of Haven Hurst. When he first meets Sophia he knows something is different about her. She can see him in spirit form and he doesn’t know if that is a good or bad thing. Michael was such a stoic character. He was single-minded in his need to prove that Sophia was a demon or a test sent by the Halos. It actually took him a while to admit that he felt anything for Sophia and now he is battling emotions that no angel should feel. Jealousy and desire.

Dante is a royal demon house the demon knight persuasion. He is being sent to the surface to collect a soul but he ulterior motives. He wants to find his long lost love. He has traced her over centuries and has finally found her. In Sophia. Dante was a weird character for me. Dante and his band of demons were supposed to be evil and they were but nothing really happened with them either.
