incredible first novel!,

This review is from: Forbidden Territory (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lieutenant J. McBride hasn't believed in psychics ever since the devastating disappearance of his daughter 6 years ago. He believes Abby Walters, the missing daughter of U.S. Senate candidate Adam Walters, is already dead as no one has heard from the kidnappers and her mother was killed in the carjacking when Abby disappeared.
Lily Browning has fought her visions ever since she "witnessed" her father's gruesome death. However, she can't resist Abby's desperate cries for help- even if it costs her the growing love she has with McBride. And just who is the mysterious Casey that she also envisions? FORBIDDEN TERRITORY is simply spell-binding! Paula Graves weaves a tale that seamlessly flows into the visions while maintaining a high level of suspense. Paula Graves cleverly builds the tension level without sacrificing the growing romance between McBride and Lily. This enchanting story will keep readers completely captivated while breathlessly awaiting Abby's rescue. It is difficult to believe that FORBIDDEN TERRITORY is the first published book by Paula Graves. Her book epitomizes what this reviewer first loved about the Harlequin Intrigue series and manages to capture all of the elements that have been sorely lacking from many of the recent series romances. Ms. Graves' website indicates that she hopes Harlequin will purchase the stories of Lily's two sisters; for readers' sakes, this reviewer certainly hopes this happens! Forbidden Territory by Paula Graves
Harlequin Intrigue # 926 - June 2006 When first grader Abby Walker is kidnapped, McBride finds his investigation going no where, until Lily comes forward to say she's seen the little girl --- in her mind. McBride doesn't believe in psychics, in fact, he has every reason to hate them, but the girl's father wants Lily on the case. Lily's a third grade teacher in Abby's school, and that and the uncanny timing of events puts her as one of the main suspects. But when attempts are made on Lily's life, McBride finds himself acting as her protector, even when everything within him tells him to steer clear of her. Lily senses there's a deep tragedy in McBride's life, one that holds him back from believing in her and believing that they may have a future. Awesome read! This is Ms. Graves's debut with Harlequin and I'm very impressed. This story has it all; suspense, heart wrenching emotions, passion, sexy hero, strong yet vulnerable heroine, action and a climatic HEA. One of the things that stands out, is McBride. Here's a man dedicated to finding this lost little girl while dealing with huge loss issues of his own. Ms. Graves does a great job in bringing out his vulnerabilities and yet holding on to that hunky male image. I'm looking forward to Lily's sisters' stories. :D

This book was easy to read, kept my attention and told a fascinating story. I look forward to the next book (a series would be nice) expanding on the lives of McBride, Lily and Casey as a family and would like to explore the abilities of Lily's sisters.

Great Debut!,

I love the Intrigue line, but I'm not much of a paranormal Intrigue fan. At least I wasn't until now. Forbidden Territory is an amazing book. It's a fast read complete with great characters, spine tingling mystery and that socks-you-in-the-gut backstory, not to mention great romance. You will love this book! I can't wait to read more of Ms. Graves' work!

I read this book last even though it was the first in Paula Graves' Forbidden series because it was not on Kindle. I have to say all these books were wonderful especially this one Forbidden Territory. I don't buy into alot of the supernatual stuff usually I like my books to be all supernatural or not at all this is series is an exception to that rule. Graves' made the heroine believeable with her gift. It was something she didn't quite know what to do with even shutting it out because it was too much. This made her likeable and believable. McBride is tough like most romance novel hero except that he doesn't quite believe and does not know what to do with her. All in all fun good read. Paula Graves is one of my must read author's she is fabulous.

should be the beginning of a great trilogy.
Lily Browning, of the Browning sisters, is a great paranormal character [except for her willingness to hop in bed] Was hoping the she and McBride would end up with Abby also. She is a teacher and is blind-sided with a vision that she fights and ends up with a really bad headache. She makes it home to Delilah and Jezabel, her two cats. Lily wished for some of Iris's blackbean tea and a little TLC. Iris has healing powers. Rose seems to be able to predict a persons marriage partner. Then McBride shows up, and having dealt with a psychic before, he has no belief in their abilities. And he definitely does not want her any where Andrew Walters to give him false hope that his daughter is alive. Adam Walters is in a close race for the U.S. Senate - could his opponent be behind his daughter's kidnapping? Cal Brody of the FBI thinks Lily knows too much not to be involved in Abby's kidnapping. Paul Leonardi was Debra Walters former lover and not happy about their breakup - could he be behind the murder-abduction? Lily learns from Abby the the name of her abducters is Skeet and Gordy - why did they contact Lily and why don't they seem to know what to do with their little victim? It makes the police suspicious of Lily. The mystery intensifies - the characters are great - the plot intriguing and came up just short of being a keeper for me. Might like to read again depending on the two sisters' stories. I just find the loose attitudes of these females toward sex a bit offensive. All in the name of love when they deny falling in love until after? Ha! Definitely Recommend --M still a great story. |
