Book Description

From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes this first book in The World of the Nightwalkers—an exciting and sensual new spin-off series in which the Bodywalkers, an ancient race of the night, battles the evil forces who prey on them.
The unexpected happens in an instant. On her way to work, secretary Docia Waverley hurtles into a crashing crossroads, and she quickly begins to suspect that things will never be the same. Then, when a tall, blond, muscular stranger intervenes on her behalf, telling her it is his duty to protect her at all cost, what is just a feeling turns to proof positive. That is, as long as Docia’s savior doesn’t turn out to be a crazed kidnapper.
When Ram finds Docia, he has no doubt that she is his queen. But as this golden warrior sweeps in to protect her, he feels something more than body heat every time they touch. He is overwhelmed by a searing connection that goes deep into the twin souls inside him. A desire rises in him that is forbidden—this woman is his queen, the mate of his king, his leader, his best friend. And yet Docia is so vulnerable and attractive that she awakens a hunger in Ram that is undeniable, a carnal craving he cannot yield to . . . not without risking the very survival of the Bodywalkers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Ménage à Everybody! November 3, 2012
By Lulu
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Forbidden is the first book in Jacquelyn Frank's new Bodywalker series, a spin-off of her excellent Nightwalker series. After a brief glimpse of Nightwalkers' Bella and Kestra, we learn of another Nightwalker race, the Bodywalkers, who were created when the ancient Egyptian mummification process unintentionally tied the souls of the dead to Earth. These souls exist in the "Ether", until they find a new human host and return to Earth. The new human host (called the "original") and the symbiote (called the "carbon") share the original's body, both souls existing and "blending" together within the one body, though the distinct personalities of both the original and the carbon are retained. Upon death of the human host body, the carbon is returned to the Ether to do it all over again with a new human host after a minimum waiting period of 100 years.

Overall, the plot of Forbidden is fairly straight forward. Unremarkable, office manager Docia Waverly is knocked off a bridge into a raging river. As she balances between life and death, she is offered the choice to either die, or become the human host to the Egyptian Queen Hapshepsut. She chooses life and upon her return to Earth, she is found by Ram, the best friend of King Menes and his second in command. He has been sent to find his Queen and protect her while she acclimates to the blending, and waits for her husband/soulmate King Menes to be reborn. However, the Queen is very quiet within Docia, so it is all Docia for the majority of the book. Ram himself is the combination of King Ramses II (yes, the pyramid builder) and Vincent, a Navy SEAL, though Ramses is the "front man" in their relationship.

2.0 out of 5 stars Confused Frank Fan November 8, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is my first Frank book that I have struggled to get through. Usually I read her books in one sitting; I have had Forbidden for two weeks. I really enjoyed the majority of the Nightwalkers series (although she has thrown one or two in that I was not too fond of) this book just left me completely confused. I felt like I was reading about four different main characters and it was not in a "this is such an interesting concept" type of feeling. Frank could not get me to buy that the "blending" of individuals was not some form of literary paranormal schizophrenia. Instead I kept stumbling over the fact that at times one person was dominate, and another was suppressed but not and that it was Okay?! The difficulty of the blending just devolved into further confusion for me with the introduction of the other nightwalker breeds that had not mentioned before plus the numerous new characters that have not one but two names. Docia, as the main female character functioned as a pitiful mouse of a woman physically and mentally for the majority of the book. The conclusion of the book was troublesome as well it just occurred in a pat-offhand manner that made the tension of Ram's loyalty easily solvable but it left me, feeling like I had whiplash. Docia's place in the Bodywalker hierarchy changed, the way that she is perceived is changed and it's in the last pages of the book! I simply do not like the Bodywalkers she has introduced into her series.

1.0 out of 5 stars If I could give it a half star I would February 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I did not like this book at all. It was very boring and confusing. I had to put this book down and read other books and still haven't really gotten back to it. I will try again later but I sure hope her other books are better. I can't believe how bad this book is. She is one of my favorite writers but if she keeps this up I definately will not be buying her books. I will get them from the library just like I had to do with Kenyon and the dark hunters. I'm not sure were she is going with this but I sure hope she rethinks this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Idolizing In: The World of Nightwalkers Series, Book 1 October 31, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
5 out of 5 stars!! Follow Docia along through her death and new life while learning about the world of Nightwalkers, becoming a Bodywalker, and finding your soul mate in the most unlikely of places. This is a hilarious and thrilling start to The World of Nightwalkers Series!! In addition, this is also a bit of a spin-off from Ms. Frank's Nightwalkers Series (a series that I have yet to read) based on the prolog that I'm not sure how that part of the story really fits into the series but I'm hoping we will find out as this series progresses.

About the Characters:
* Docia: I enjoyed Docia so much! She is quirky, fun, rambles quite a bit, and is the perfect mix of being shy and daring all at once. Also, I think that with her new "Bodywalker" status she will grow to be more formidable than ever, however I do like Docia's attitude more so then the bits I saw of her reserved counterpart so I hope that later on as this series goes we will see her acting more like herself than anything else.

* Ram/Vincent: About 68 years old but doesn't look more than a few years older than 30. Is the second in command to all the Bodywalkers and is anxiously waiting for his King and Queen's return to Earth. He believes that Docia is his Queen, and plans to protect her as much as possible. Has an undeniable connection to Docia that is hard to pull away from.

* Cleo/Desirée: A prophetess who predicted that their King and Queen were coming soon. She tries to portray herself as a ditz but is very knowledgeable and she is very welcoming to Docia when they first meet.

* Jackson: Docia's older brother who is a cop and is very protective of her.

Story lines of the characters overlap quite a but causing some confusion but the overall story is interesting even if the intensity in the sense and characters isn't there. Read more

More About the Author

Hi there. It's me! Again. Time to update some more. I am rounding the bend into the double 4's (44 on 2/22/2012) and things are changing so fast in the writing world. I've expanded my online presence to include Facebook and Twitter, a website a blog and every other bleeping thing there is out there in the cyber world. Was finding it hard to manage all that exposure and get work done at the same time, so I now have a full-time assistant, named Natalie. Feel free to contact her for any of your authoring, blogging, promotional requests at She's a good egg and will answer all of your questions, big or small and see to it that I get back to you in a timely manner. I am writing for three different lines (Zebra, Aphrodisia and Ballentine) and under two names (JAX is for my steamier stuff...and yes, it does get steamier!) And I am in over half a dozen languages now! INCUDING a full line of NIGHTWALKERS audio books with the glorious narration of the superb Xe Sands. I'm thrilled with the job she did!

ADAM has just debuted and my fingers are crossed that it will do well. The first hints are that you all LOVE IT and HATE IT and LOVE IT and...well, that's kind of the reaction I was hoping for. ;) Hehehe. What good am I if I can't torment my readers?

I'm still living in Asheville, NC. My kitty family has swelled to *wince* TEN cats. I was fostering and...I found it so hard to trust anyone would give them a better home than me! Is that ego or arrogance or just trust issues?

Email will always be welcomed. I am a tech queen and my laptop has grown roots into my thighs. (And my bottom has grown them into my recliner). I am so thrilled about all of my books and I want to know what everyone thinks of them! I think it would be fascinating to hear what my readers would like to see happen in the Nightwalker world as the series advances. I receive emails at these days. Feel free to say hi! Natalie will see to it I get back to you in one way or another. :)

If you haven't tried me, please do. I always recommend starting with JACOB. Or if you don't want to invest in a series, go for DRINK OF ME. It's a stand alone.

Hugs and Kitties,
Jacquelyn Frank
